For many LGBTQIA+ people, seeing that kind of support in their own neighborhood matters more than people sometimes realize. It sends a message: you are welcome here, you are supported, and you do not have to hide who you are. This is also an opportunity for allies to show up publicly and help make our town feel a little more open, supportive, and inclusive for everyone.
Right now, visibility and support matter. Across the country, LGBTQIA+ rights and protections continue to face growing challenges, with hundreds of anti-LGBTQIA bills introduced in states across the U.S. (including in New Jersey) over the past two years. Small acts of support in our community can make a real difference for people who may feel scared, isolated, or unseen.
As part of Pride Across New Providence, we’re providing free Pride flags to anyone who would like to participate. We currently have two options available:
Standard 3x5 ft Pride flag
Small lawn Pride flag
All we ask is that participants display their flag from June 1 through June 30 for the entirety of Pride month. Our goal is simple: when people walk or drive through New Providence in June, we want them to see visible reminders that this is a place where people are welcomed, supported, and valued for who they are!
