June is coming soon! This Pride Month, we’re hoping to fill New Providence with a visible message of support, inclusion, and belonging by putting Pride flags up throughout town. If you'd like one for your porch or lawn for free, please complete this form: https://forms.gle/5VKjQQGcGSQpL3Ys5.

For many LGBTQIA+ people, seeing that kind of support in their own neighborhood matters more than people sometimes realize. It sends a message: you are welcome here, you are supported, and you do not have to hide who you are. This is also an opportunity for allies to show up publicly and help make our town feel a little more open, supportive, and inclusive for everyone.

Right now, visibility and support matter. Across the country, LGBTQIA+ rights and protections continue to face growing challenges, with hundreds of anti-LGBTQIA bills introduced in states across the U.S. (including in New Jersey) over the past two years. Small acts of support in our community can make a real difference for people who may feel scared, isolated, or unseen.

As part of Pride Across New Providence, we’re providing free Pride flags to anyone who would like to participate. We currently have two options available:

Standard 3x5 ft Pride flag
Small lawn Pride flag

All we ask is that participants display their flag from June 1 through June 30 for the entirety of Pride month. Our goal is simple: when people walk or drive through New Providence in June, we want them to see visible reminders that this is a place where people are welcomed, supported, and valued for who they are! Thank you!

This June, we’re inviting residents to participate in Pride Across New Providence, a community initiative focused on visibility, inclusion, and support for LGBTQIA+ neighbors in our town. For many people, especially our LGBTQIA+ neighbors, friends, family, and kids, seeing visible support in their...

Happy Earth Day!

We love New Providence, and one of the best ways to show that is by protecting and celebrating our local wildlife, land, and air! Earth Day is a reminder that even small actions can make a real difference right here at home. We all have a role to play in protecting our environment!

Here are a few simple ways celebrate Earth Day and make a local impact:

Plant New Jersey-native plants to support your local ecosystem! https://npsnj.org/native-plants/

Create a pollinator-friendly garden – https://www.nature.org/en-us/magazine/magazine-articles/pollinator-paradise/ and https://www.jerseyyards.org/create-a-jersey-friendly-yard/pollinators/

Recycle aluminum cans at the NP Firehouse (175 Floral Ave.) – drop your empty aluminum cans in the can cart behind the firehouse to help raise money for the Saint Barnabas Burn Center.

Learn how you can start composting!

Participate in New Providence Clean Up Day on Monday, April 27 – https://www.newprov.us/m/newsflash/home/detail/902 )

Explore a local park and identify native plants – download a plant ID app or bring a field guide

Stay up to date on issues affecting climate in NJ – https://www.njlcv.org/issues/fighting-climate-change

Take action! Call your elected officials and tell them protecting the environment matters to you: 202-224-3121

Shop at a local farmer’s market or sustainable business – Summit’s Farmer’s Market runs every Sunday starting April 19, and check out Sustainable Haus Mercantile in Summit

Reduce single-use plastics for a day – bring reusable bags while shopping, use reusable water bottles or sandwich bags, use compostable straws
