Theresa Lombardi Magistro visited the library to donate a copy of her book, "Antonetta: an Immigrant's Story," recently published by Casa Lago Press as volume 11 in its Diaspora series. "Antonetta" retells the stories originally told to the author by her mother, Antonetta, which her great grandchildren requested to hear time and time again.

Born in a small village in Italy in 1901 along the Adriatic Coast, Antonetta married a World War I veteran who had previously immigrated to the US but returned when conscripted into the Italian army, which was an American ally. After years of separation while her husband worked and saved in the Bronx, Antonetta joined her husband in 1929, crossing the Atlantic in search of a new life that would include experiencing the Great Depression -- and a brief adventure into television stardom.

Author John Kenney zoomed into the Morning Book Club last week. Everyone loved "I See You've Called in Dead" ... even the people who didn’t expect to. Funny, thoughtful, and sneakily moving. Thanks, John, for such a warm, serious, and hilarious conversation!

I See You've Called In Dead has been selected as the next book for , so if you missed our book club, you'll be able to read the ebook/audiobook in the Libby app with no wait lists from July 9-23.

This witty and moving novel follows Bud Stanley, an obituary writer who has quietly drifted through life since his divorce. After an especially disastrous blind date, Bud heads home, pours himself a few drinks, and writes his own obituary—only to accidentally publish it on his company’s website for the entire world to see. What follows is a sharp, funny, and deeply human story about second chances, connection, and learning how to truly live while you still can.
