Today, we remember and celebrate the life of Carol Sue Lambert. Her service to our community and department was not limited in title. Her humble spirit and grateful heart served as a first responder early in the birth of the New Raymer/Stoneham Fire Department. She was a devoted educator, respected leader, and steady voice in the heart of our rural community.

Carol Sue understood something not everyone does — that real service is done in the unseen hours, in the moments when no one is watching, and often when no one else steps forward. She answered calls in the earliest days of our fire department, taught generations of students in our local school, and carried the torch of leadership through her devotion to the World’s Fair, Prairie Alumni, and the Prairie Lions Club.

Carol Sue was steadfast. She kept showing up, kept giving, kept teaching, kept loving. Her legacy will not lie solely in the history books of our department or the yearbooks of our school. Her lasting legacy, instilled in her bloodline and community, is the character and heartfelt devotion she shaped in all of us.

To her family, especially our Chief Cyle: Carol Sue’s name will be spoken with reverence in our halls and carried in the stories we tell to the next generation. We grieve with hope and glory to know that Carol Sue has entered into the joy of Heaven and loving arms of our Lord.

At 4PM today we were dispatched to MM218 Hwy 71 for a large ground cover fire. 3361 requested mutual aid enroute and quickly called for additional units upon arrival. About 10 agencies with 20 plus apparatus responded to assist battle this large, wind driven fire. Crews did an outstanding job controlling this fire which changed direction mutiple times. The fire was measured at just over 1,800 acres. Without our mutual aid, we would have lost this fire, and much more than pasture land. Thank you to all the agencies that responded to assist.

The New Raymer/Stoneham Fire Protection District is proud to announce the commissioning of Pastor Kelly Huenink to our Fire Chaplain Team. Kelly has earned over 57 hours of crisis intervention and Christian leadership training in the last calendar year. Her expertise, integrity, and servant-heart are yet another valuable asset to our chaplain team’s mission in rendering spiritual, emotional, and psychological care to our victims/patients, fire department members & families, and the community at-large. Welcome Kelly!

Just after 4pm we were dispatched to WCR 149 south of Stoneham for a ground cover fire. We cleared both station 1 and 2 as well as received mutual aid from Sterling Fire Department, Wiggins Rural Fire Protection District, Hillrose Snyder Volunteer Fire Department, Brush Volunteer Fire Department, Fort Morgan Fire Department, Merino Volunteer Fire Department, and Morgan County Sheriff's Office, Colorado. Crews were very lucky to control the fire as it spread east to WCR 151. No injuries were reported. The fire was estimated at about 230 acres and caused by a down power line.

As we celebrate the life of Sherri Picciano, we warmly reflect on the impact she had on our fire department, our chaplain team, and our community. Sherri was a powerful prayer warrior steadfastly seeking to be God‘s hands and feet. She will forever be in our hearts and will be greatly missed. Our prayers are with Sherri’s loved ones during this difficult time.
