Our thoughts and prayers are with our LE family in St. Peter. What a horrible and traumatic incident for all involved.
Last night, evil came knocking. But it didn’t win.
No call in law enforcement is ever routine. No traffic stop ever goes exactly by the book. And no officer ever wants to hear the words coming across the radio:
Shots fired! Shots fired! Shots fired!
Start medics. Start medics!
We need an ambulance.
We need ambulances now. Now. Now!
Because of the bravery of the men and women who run toward danger while carrying the weight of the badge, the rest of us are a little safer. We sleep in our homes and tuck our families into bed because they stand watch against the things that go bump in the night.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Saint Peter Police Department and all of the assisting agencies. What happened last night will stay with those involved for years to come. It becomes part of the weight they carry every day.
We are incredibly thankful this officer is expected to recover. In the days and weeks ahead, prayers are welcomed.
Let this be a reminder to check in on your partners. Let this be a reminder that, as a community, we can do better. And let this be a reminder to show support for the brave men and women who put on the badge and answer the call, no matter the danger.
Stay safe, Saint Peter. We are standing with you
