Today marked an important day for West Penn Fire Company and the communities we proudly serve.
Through an agreement to lease East End Fire Company’s station space, apparatus, and equipment, West Penn Fire Company is expanding our ability to protect our community while providing dedicated East End volunteers the opportunity to continue serving as members of our department.
This agreement is about far more than buildings or equipment.
It’s about people.
Across the country, volunteer fire companies continue to face declining membership. We believe the men and women who are willing to answer the call deserve every opportunity to continue serving their communities. Supporting one another strengthens not only our departments, but the volunteer fire service as a whole.
For generations, East End Fire Company served its community with pride. That legacy was built by volunteers who dedicated countless hours to helping their neighbors, and we are honored to welcome many of those individuals into the West Penn Fire Company family.
Our hope is simple: to provide these volunteers a place to continue serving while supporting them in their goal of one day seeing East End Fire Company recognized once again as an independent, certified fire company. If that day comes, no one will be happier than the members of West Penn Fire Company.
The fire service has always been bigger than any one department. It’s about protecting our communities, supporting one another, and ensuring those who are willing to serve always have the opportunity to do so.
We thank the members of the media who joined us today, our neighboring departments for their support, and especially the volunteers of both West Penn and East End for their dedication to our communities.
Honoring a legacy. Strengthening a brotherhood.
