New River Valley Water Rescue And Recovery Association

New River Valley Water Rescue And Recovery Association We are a group of Fire Departments,Rescue Squads And Police Departments from the NRV Who train together and pool Resources to help our Communities.

Members: Blacksburg Rescue Squad, Christiansburg Fire Department, Riner Rescue Squad, Christiansburg Rescue Squad, Elliston Fire Department, LongShop-McCoy Fire & Rescue, Radford Fire & Rescue, US Coast Guard Aux , Virginia Tech Police Department, Wythe County Sheriffs Office and the Pulaski County Special Operations Team.

Appalachian Power will conduct a three-hour required test of its electricity generating units at the Claytor hydroelectric project beginning at approximately 3 p.m. this afternoon.

Testing will increase downstream flows at locations on the New River, depending on distance from the dam. Outflows will peak between 4 – 5 p.m. before decreasing over the next day. Recreational and commercial users of the river and shoreline areas should be aware of temporary higher levels and faster water flows.
