Why is the Paine Cottage a glow in green light?
Paine’s Rights of Man Vol. 1, first released in February and again in March 1791 reportedly sold more than 40,000 copies in Ireland in November that year.
The Society of United Irishmen used Paine's ideas to unite Catholics and Protestants against British rule, with his influence clearly visible in their early declarations. On 5 June 1792, Thomas Paine was proposed for honorary membership of the Dublin Society of United Irishmen.
Thomas Addis Emmet a prominent Irish lawyer, political leader, and a key member of the Society of United Irishmen fought for Irish independence from British rule. Emmet a close friend of Paine, attended his burial in New Rochelle and was one of the executors and trustees of Paine’s will.
New Rochelle has a strong connection to the Irish fight for independence with many of the Emmet family residing in New Rochelle. A wonderful read from Iona graduate, James McGlashin’s, 'New Rochelle her part in the Irish War of Independence'.

What could be better than curling up with a good book during this very cold weekend. Please rescue a book this weekend at the New Rochelle Public Library they are giving away free children's books and just $1 for a full bag of adult fiction. Save the books before they go to the shredder next week and stay warm.

We found homes for over 2000 books today from the New Rochelle Public Library! Thank you to all the teachers who stopped by to gather books for their students. Thank you to Gary from the Thomas Paine Cottage Museum for your help delivering our heavy boxes to sites around our great City of New Rochelle, NY! And, thank you to my Mom, who spent 8 hours at the library packing books while I was in school. You make a difference, a HUGE difference!
Please stop by the Friends of the NRPL Book Store, New Rochelle Public Library, on Saturday from 10am-4pm to pick up some free children's books. Adult books are only $1 a bag!
