Gitana - 1936 Alden Yawl

Gitana - 1936 Alden Yawl Gitana is a classic sailing vessel built in 1936. She's a one-of-a-kind Alden Yawl. Gitana is a classic wooden yawl designed by John G. Alden and built in 1936.

The Alden design number is 630 and she is the only one ever built. Sailors and boaters will know the Danforth Anchor... well Gitana was designed for Richard S. Danforth. Mr. Danforth used Gitana to test his now famous anchor. In 1948 Gitana was in the TransPac to Hawaii. In 1955 she was shipped east and was re-rigged as a yawl for cruising in Maine. Gitana's hull is built of mahogany planks on whi

te oak frames. There is an annual regatta in Maine named after her. The purpose of this page is to share the joy of Gitana. We will share photos, videos, and stories of Gitana.
