On Friday, July 3rd, Eddy County Sheriff’s Deputy Sauve was involved in a high-speed pursuit with a high-performance motorcycle. Deputy Sauve observed the motorcycle traveling at 153 mph northbound on Highway 281 north of New Rockford before pursuing it. The motorcycle was very reckless and endangered motorists on the highway and onto the Spirit Lake Reservation. Deputy Sauve terminated the pursuit for the safety of others. The motorcycle was later spotted in Devils Lake and was involved in a pursuit with DLPD officers and other agencies. Later the same day, the suspect returned to New Rockford where Eddy County Sheriff deputies were able to apprehend the suspect as he fled on foot. Deputy Sauve placed 27 year-old Gunnar Syverson of Minot under arrest for an outstanding no-bond felony warrant out of Ward County and pending charges for Fleeing or Attempting to Elude, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangerment, Driving While License Suspended, and other infractions including one of the highest speeding tickets in the state.

Sheriff Paul Lies,

Some of my friends and family had a pulling unit and plugging equipment vandalized this past weekend in your county. They did what they should do and called it in expecting a deputy/investigator to show up and handle their issue. Unfortunately, they were told paperwork would be sent and they could fill it out and send it back to YOUR office. Is this how Eddy County handles B&E and larceny now??? Are y’all to busy to do your damn job?? Or are you that damn lazy now. A lot has changes in the last 20 years evidently since I worked just east of you in Lea County. Back then, there were men like Norman Denton working for your department who were real Poe-leece, and yes, we worked together to help, solve cases and protect our county residents. Glad I don’t live in your Jurisdiction. SMH
I'm a grad student in Global History, and I'm currently interning on a digital archive project that could use your help. Arizona State U is leading an online historical archive that's collecting submissions from the public related to their COVID-19 experiences. Entitled, "Journal of the Plague Year," the international effort is specifically seeking submissions from LEOs and first responders. You may submit anonymously if you prefer.

Although I'm specifically seeking submissions from first responders of all patches, badges, and scrubs, this is a public archive that welcomes all submissions.

Here's the submission link, but feel free to poke around the site and see what's already been submitted and curated for posterity:

https://covid-19archive.org/s/archive/page/Share

Thank you for your service, and I hope this project helps our present society and future social researchers make sense of all this. Be safe out there!
You should probably put something up warning New Rockford of a r**e that happened last weekend? Don't you think......
On behalf of my family I would like to thank Sheriff Mark Cage and the Eddy County Sheriffs Office, City of Carlsbad Police Dept and Eddy Co. DA’s office for their dedication and hard work. My son, Justin Swenson, tragically lost his life as a victim of violent crime May 28th, 2019. Since that day, the Eddy County Sheriff’s office has gone above and beyond to ensure justice is being served. A special thank you to Sgt.Tim Satterfield who has been a tremendous support to my family. Also thank you to Asst. DA Patrick Melvin, Samantha Clifton, our Victim Services Coordinator, and to all our local law enforcement officers who have aided in the apprehension, prosecution of these violent offenders.
We cannot express enough our gratitude, appreciation and support.
The NM US Attorney Generals office have recently taken over the case. We wish to show our continued appreciation and support to the Federal Law Enforcement officials seeking justice.

Denis Swenson and family
