It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of one of our own.

On Friday evening, our brother suffered a medical emergency and, despite every effort, passed away as a result of that emergency.

He was far more than a firefighter—he was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, cherished brother, and a true friend. His dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to serving others left a lasting impact on our department and the community we are honored to protect.

The loss of a brother like him leaves a void that can never truly be filled. His legacy will live on in every call we answer, every life we touch, and in the memories we will forever carry with us.

To his family, we extend our deepest condolences and ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest easy, Brother. Your watch is over. We'll take it from here.

🔥 COOLING STATION AVAILABLE 🔥

With the extreme summer heat, the Walnut Township Fire Department is here to help.

We've partnered with Indiana 211 to provide Station 81 as a cooling station whenever temperatures reach approximately 90°F or higher. If you or someone you know needs a safe, air-conditioned place to cool down, we're here for our community.

Great morning of training with the crew today!

Today's focus was on water supply operations, specifically drafting from a portable dump tank. We worked on establishing a reliable rural water supply, drafting from the dump tank, troubleshooting pump issues, and maintaining a continuous water supply through tanker shuttle operations.

Training like this is essential. None of our district has fire hydrants, so being proficient at rural water supply operations is a skill we rely on when seconds count. The more we train, the better prepared we are to protect our community.

We even had a few special guests stop by during training to check out the fire truck! It's always great to see members of the community, especially the younger generation, taking an interest in what we do. We were happy to show them around and answer their questions.

Thank you to everyone who gave up part of their Sunday to train. Your commitment to improving your skills and serving our community does not go unnoticed.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon, with storms possibly arriving as early as 2 PM and continuing into tonight.

* Primary threats: Damaging straight-line winds and a few tornadoes (a strong tornado cannot be ruled out)
* Wind gusts in storms could reach up to 70 mph
* Greatest threat window: 8 PM – Midnight

* Slight risk of flash flooding, especially where storms repeatedly track over the same area
* Large hail possible (up to 1”)
