We are asking people to please refrain from any open outdoor burning!! We know this weather makes it tempting and even though we have received moisture recently the vegetation is still extremely dry. Fires will spread quickly and honestly, your firemen are worn out. The ground is wet, making it difficult to get our trucks into some areas so we are having to walk and extinguish the fires by hand. It's wearing on our people, equipment and resources. We are extremely thankful for the multiple surrounding agencies who were able to assist with a large fire today. Thank you for your cooperation!

We know the weather is beautiful and you're eager to do your Spring burning, but please hold off.

We know the weather is beautiful and you're eager to do your Spring burning, but please hold off.

Critical fire weather conditions are forecast on Monday. Temperatures will soar into the upper 60s to mid-70s, with relative humidity falling to 20-25% in the afternoon. Southwest winds will increase to 20-25 mph during the day, with gusts to near 35 mph at times. Most surface fuels are now dry, especially in parts of southern into central Iowa where all snow has melted and a Red Flag Warning is in effect. All burning is strongly discouraged on Monday!
