Tuesday had started like so many Tuesdays do. My wife and I had settled into one of our favorite spots at DeLeon Springs State Park, when my phone buzzed with a text from Christian.
He had lost his wedding band on New Smyrna Beach.
I gave him a quick call. He sounded worried—almost desperate. He explained that he had lost his 14K gold wedding band the day before. He had placed it in the cup holder of his beach chair, but when they packed up to leave, the ring was gone. They searched for it but came up empty-handed.
I told Christian where I was and that I expected to be back in New Smyrna Beach by noon. Before heading out, I whispered a quick prayer, asking the Lord to protect the ring and keep it there until I could find it.
Once I returned to New Smyrna, I called Christian and told him I was on my way to the beach. When I arrived, he directed me to the area where they had been sitting.
I fired up my Minelab Manticore and began gridding the dry sand near the roadway. The heat was intense, with the bright sun beating down and radiating off the sand.
On my second pass, I got a promising signal.
I looked down, and there it was—a small, round circle barely protruding from the sand.
Could it really be?
I reached down and picked it up.
It was the ring.
I checked the inscription, and there was no doubt. I had found Christian’s wedding band.
I was incredibly grateful. The ring had been sitting there since the day before, and somehow no one had found it. I truly believe the Lord led me straight to it—and answered my prayer by getting it back to Christian quickly.
Another ring saved. Another story of something thought to be lost forever, found.

🦩😂 The sandhill cranes do not care about your schedule. They do not care about your minivan. They will cross this street at whatever pace they choose and you will wait, and you will be grateful for the experience. 🌴

Florida sandhill cranes have an absolutely legendary level of confidence for a bird. They walk through neighborhoods like they own the property, stop traffic without hesitation, and will stare down a full-size vehicle without blinking. Locals know the drill — you stop, you wait, you maybe take a photo, and you let the cranes complete their extremely important journey across the road at their own pace. This is Florida. The birds have seniority.

Have you been held up by sandhill cranes? Drop your best story in the comments. And follow for more Florida Wildlife content. 🦩😂

Florida's gopher tortoise just received troubling news 😥

The International Union for Conservation of Nature has reclassified the gopher tortoise as critically endangered, citing decades of population declines driven largely by habitat loss. Florida, home to one of the species' largest remaining populations, was singled out as an area where numbers have fallen significantly since the 1960s.

Known as a keystone species, gopher tortoises dig burrows that provide shelter for more than 350 other kinds of animals. While the reptiles are protected under state law, conservation experts say preserving and restoring their habitat will be critical to their long-term survival.
