Tonight at Springfield Township Fire & Rescue we took a step back from our normal Monday Night training to recognize one of our own. Scott Rice, as you may know, was awarded Mahoning County Fireman of the Year. Pictured here is 2nd generation member Jim Rice (retired) along with 3rd generation member Scott Rice. His Grandfather was a charter member in New Springfield and his nephew is now a fireman in a neighboring county, but started his career as a 4th generation fireman here in Springfield as well.

When reviewing the criteria for nominations for Mahoning Valley Fireman of the Year it was an easy nomination to make. Over the course of a 30 + year career, no one can think of a time when Scott wasn't heavily involved in pushing the department forward. Not only has Scott had a direct impact on countless lives in the immediate area, he has indirectly impacted lives of victims across the tri county area as a notable instructor for MCCTC Fire Academy.

Scott on behalf of the the Department, the Township, and the Mahoning Valley we thank you. Although you are trying to avoid the limelight, you deserve it.
