In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
National Police Week is a collaborative effort of many organizations dedicated to honoring America’s law enforcement community.
In December 2013, I graduated from the peace officers program at Lake Region State College. I started my career in law enforcement with the Mckenzie County Sheriff's Office as a deputy and worked for New Town Police Department and The Three Affiliated Tribes Law Enforcement. I have been in law enforcement now for 11 years. I've worked with great officers and made many friends. I've even worked alongside my wife when she dispatched for MCSO. Thank you to all the outstanding LEOs whom I've had the privilege to work with and alongside. I pray for your continued safety, health and wellbeing.
Please take time to thank a officer should you see one around. This profession takes heart and determination. Many officers work long days, weekends, nights and get little rest. LEOs miss birthdays, anniversaries, holidays and many other special events, and its great to hear every once in a while, thank you.
