🚩A Red Flag Warning remains in effect today for McKenzie County from 11 AM CDT through 10 PM CDT due to hot temperatures, strong winds, and low relative humidity creating critical fire weather conditions.

🌡️ Today’s Conditions:
• High temperatures in the upper 80s to near 100°
• South to southeast winds 15–25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph
• Relative humidity as low as 15–27%
• Dry, hot, and breezy conditions across western North Dakota

🚨 Fire Danger Today:
🔴 McKenzie County – Red Flag Warning / Critical Fire Weather
🟠 Mountrail County, McKenzie County– High Fire Danger
🔵 Dunn & McLean Counties – Moderate Fire Danger

⚠️ What This Means:
Critical to near-critical fire weather conditions are expected today. Any fire that starts could spread rapidly and become difficult to suppress, especially in cured grasses and dry fuels.

🔥 Burning is strongly discouraged today, especially in McKenzie and Mountrail counties.

🚩A Red Flag Warning is in effect today for Mandaree and western portions of the Fort Berthold Reservation, including McKenzie County, from late this morning through this evening due to critical fire weather conditions.

🔥 FIRE DANGER TODAY:
• McKenzie County & Mountrail County: HIGH FIRE DANGER
• Dunn County & McLean County: MODERATE FIRE DANGER

🟡What does HIGH fire danger mean?
High fire danger means fires can start easily, spread rapidly, and become difficult to control under current weather conditions. Outdoor burning is NOT recommended when fire danger reaches High or above.

🔵What does MODERATE fire danger mean?
Moderate fire danger means fires can still start and spread, especially in dry grasses and brush. Use caution with anything that could spark a fire.

🔥 Today’s Fire Weather Conditions:
• Temperatures climbing into the 90s
• Relative humidity dropping to around 17–22%
• Southeast winds increasing to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph
• Excellent smoke dispersion and very dry conditions expected

A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for Tuesday, May 26, for areas including Four Bears, Mandaree, and western McKenzie County due to strong winds and low relative humidity.

11:00 AM CDT – 10:00 PM CDT

🌬 Expected Conditions:
• Southeast winds 20–30 mph
• Wind gusts up to 40 mph
• Relative humidity as low as 20%
• Hot and dry conditions across the area

🔥 WHAT IS A FIRE WEATHER WATCH?
A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Weather conditions are favorable for rapid wildfire growth, but confidence is still developing on exactly how severe conditions may become.

If conditions worsen or become more certain, the Fire Weather Watch could be upgraded to a Red Flag Warning.

Fort Berthold Reservation is currently in MODERATE FIRE DANGER today.

☀️ Mostly sunny skies with temperatures reaching 90–95°F
💨 Light winds around 5–10 mph

A Moderate Fire Danger means fires can still start from accidental sparks or open flames, especially in dry grasses, brush, and roadside areas. While fuels are not critically dry yet, hot temperatures and low humidity can allow fires to spread under the right conditions.

Today’s humidity values are expected to drop around 17–22%, which will continue drying vegetation across the area.

A warming and drying trend continues across the Fort Berthold Reservation today. All of Fort Berthold — including Mountrail, McKenzie, Dunn, McLean, and Mercer counties — is currently in MODERATE FIRE DANGER.

🔵Moderate Fire Danger means fires can start easily in dry grass and brush and may spread at a moderate rate if one starts. While conditions are not considered extreme today, warm temperatures, low humidity, and dry fuels can still create wildfire concerns across the reservation.

Today will bring partly sunny skies with temperatures climbing into the mid to upper 80s across the area. South to southwest winds will remain around 10–15 mph with low relative humidity between 22–27%, creating dry grass and brush conditions across the reservation.

• Temperatures: 85–90°F
• Minimum Humidity: 22–27%
• Winds: South 10–15 mph

Areas of dense fog are impacting portions of western North Dakota this morning, creating reduced visibility for travelers early today. Conditions are expected to gradually clear later this afternoon with partly sunny skies and temperatures warming into the low to mid 70s.

• Dunn County

Moderate fire danger means fires can start more easily in dry grasses and vegetation. While conditions are not extreme, fires may spread if not quickly contained.

🟢 Low Fire Danger
• Mountrail County
• McLean County
• Mercer County

Low fire danger means weather conditions are less favorable for rapid wildfire growth today due to lighter winds, cooler morning temperatures, and higher moisture from dense fog conditions.

Today’s fire danger is currently LOW across the entire Fort Berthold Reservation, including Mountrail, McKenzie, McLean, and Dunn Counties. Recent moisture and cooler temperatures are helping reduce wildfire potential across the region.

🌦️ Today’s Weather Conditions:
• Mostly cloudy with widespread rain showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms
• Chance of precipitation: 90%
• High temperatures: 60–65°F
• Minimum relative humidity: 57–62%
• North winds: 5–10 mph
• Smoke dispersal: Fair

⚠️ Even with low fire danger, wildfire prevention still matters. Human-caused fires can still occur, especially with unattended campfires, burning debris, or careless use of equipment.
