Severe weather is possible today and tomorrow. Today's threat has been updated to a Slight Risk with two lines of storms moving through with the biggest threats damaging winds and large hail, but isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out. The stronger severe weather threat is Wednesday and Wednesday night when all hazards are on the table. Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings!

WEATHER GEEK: I know tomorrow has a lot of chatter online (rightfully so). I try very hard to keep feet on the ground to suppress anxiety, and I think a key to that is education! Anyone can post spooky maps with lots of colors to get shares & likes. I feel my job is to inform and educate as to what those spooky colors mean... so that's what I'm going to try to do. However, I will echo my previous post -- Wednesday's forecast deserves our attention.

One reason the tornado risk is elevated on Wednesday is the warm front. We often talk about the warm front being the boundary between warmer air and cooler air. For Wednesday's setup, it also is the boundary/line between different wind directions, moisture and instability. When storms form near a warm front, they grow high in the sky (sometimes 50,000+ feet!) and can tap into that added spin (we call it wind shear) more easily. That is why the tornado risk is higher near the warm front.

The exact position of the warm front is important. If morning storms hold it farther south, the greatest tornado risk stays south of us. If it lifts farther north, the higher risk comes into our backyard (especially Northern Indiana). That will be the key tomorrow. Individual discrete storms that develop along that warm front will have a high chance of developing a tornado.

For Wednesday, I'll be sure to update on exactly WHERE that warm front is during the day... because that is where we will want to watch. Updates to come, of course. :)

**Severe Storm Alert**
Strong to severe storms are expected tonight, potentially bringing damaging winds. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.

**Preparing for a Thunderstorm**
1. Sign up for your community's warning system, B-Warn, the Emergency Alert System (EAS), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Weather Radio.
2. Trim or cut down trees that could potentially fall on your home.
3. Create an emergency plan so that everyone in your household knows where to go and what to do if a thunderstorm warning is issued.
4. Identify the safest locations for shelter in your home, workplace, and school.
5. Get trained in first aid and learn how to respond effectively to emergencies.
6. Assemble an emergency kit.

**Know the Difference**
- **Severe Thunderstorm Watch**: Severe thunderstorms are possible in and near the watch area. Stay informed and be ready to act if a severe thunderstorm warning is issued. The watch area typically covers multiple counties or even states.
- **Severe Thunderstorm Warning**: Severe weather has been reported by spotters or indicated by radar. Warnings signify imminent danger to life and property. Take shelter in a sturdy building and avoid mobile homes that can be overturned in high winds.

**After a Thunderstorm**
- Stay away from downed power lines and report them immediately.
- Inspect your property and vehicles for damage.
- Avoid storm-damaged areas.

**Preparation Tips**
If you have lawn furniture, umbrellas, or other items you don’t want to lose, move them indoors or secure them properly.

Last night, fire departments gathered to conduct Water Supply, Tanker Shuttle, and Driver Training. The departments included the Bridgman Fire Department, the Baroda Fire Department, and the Weesaw Township Fire Department, with over 25 team members in attendance.25 team members in attendance

A few weeks ago we had a resident reach out who had a fire at there home about a year ago and said they want to help others in there time of need. The family made up over 20 overnight bags to help families of a disaster get back on there feet, the bags included socks, phone chargers, tooth paste and tooth brushes, rubber gloves cleaning supplies and tons of other useful items. We would like to say thank you to the Smith family for the great donation and caring so much for the community.❤️❤️❤️

On May 28, 2026, at approximately 12:12 AM, the Weesaw Township Fire Department was called to respond to an unknown single-car rollover crash. The first officer arrived on the scene within minutes and began assessing the patients. Two individuals were transported to Corewell Health St. Joe, while one patient was transferred to Helen DeVos Hospital in Grand Rapids for surgery.

Everyone at the Weesaw Township Fire Department is keeping those involved in this crash in our thoughts and prayers.
