Tuesday's Ag Day Parade down Minnesota Street in New Ulm was nearly as large as our largest recent one (40 units). I counted 37 today. Wow!!! Thanks to everyone who brought out their tractors, trucks, and more...and thanks to the New Ulm FFA members for encouraging the local ag-related businesses to take part. New Ulm FFA members also did a “play-by-play” on KNUJ radio and carried the flags and club banner. The Hub Club treated the FFA members to pizza and pop back at the school afterwards. In response to questions about how long the parade has been held—the club’s 50th anniversary book reports that the first parade was held in 1980 when members went “all out” and had 48 units in the parade. Early Ag Day/Ag Week observances also included luncheons at Turner Hall. Those luncheons were discontinued after 2008, but the parades have continued.

What goes up must come down...or such is the case with the backdrop curtains at the Hub Club Farm Show. A dedicated crew of Hub Club and New Ulm FFA members put everything up Thursday evening—and took it back own Saturday afternoon. The show closed at 4 pm—and the last committee members and volunteers walked out of the Civic Center at 5 pm. Great work and great volunteers! Tables and chairs were loaded up, curtains and poles taken down, and all the other supplies packed up. The work has been easier the last few years, with the curtain company coming up with a unique rack system that allows the curtains and poles to stay together on the racks—much eaiser than the days when we had to remove and fold all the curtains.

The vendors are rolling in to the Civic Center in New Ulm as preparations continue for the Hub Club Farm Show. Door men Bob and Vernie has been waiting at the back door, helping vendors get in and out with "the big stuff." The show will open at 1:00 p.m. today and be open until 8:00. Tomorrow's hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Come on out to see what's new!

Hub Club and FFA members made quick work of converting the south arena of the Civic Center in New Ulm into a convention floor Thursday afternoon. They got it ready for the Hub Club's Farm Show that opens Friday afternoon. Starting with an empty arena (except for some farm machinery already in place), the show committee members first marked the booth spaces with chalk As more volunteers arrived, they started to place the bases and poles for the backdrop curtains, then hung those curtains. They also got the food stand in the entryway and the hospitality room ready. The 40-plus volunteers were treated to pizza for supper—along with delicious bars supplied by club members. Set-up continues Friday morning, as vendors start to arrive. Show hours are 1-8 pm Friday and 9 am-4 pm Saturday. Come check out the vendor booths, enjoy the Friday evening social and the dairy princess coronation Saturday.
