The John Lind House Former Governor John Lind home promoting architectural heritage as an arts, cultural and social resource for the community and an interpretative center.

The Lind Home was erected in 1887 by Minnesota's 14th Governor, John Lind. This stately house was often the center of the community's cultural activities. Its elegant Queen Anne architecture and historical significance have allowed it to be placed on the National Register of Historic Buildings. The Lind House has been beautifully renovated to match its original elegance. The home has been owned and maintained by the non-profit Lind House Association since 1983. Tours or rentals can be scheduled by calling or emailing.

Did you know the Lind House is home to a unique “square” piano? Stop by this weekend to check it out!

During a tour this summer, we were visited by school music teacher Christie Gergen from Murray County Central. She provided a delightful mini-performance on this uncommon antique musical instrument.

It’s another Oktoberfest weekend and one more chance to visit the historic Lind House!

Stop by from noon to 4 pm on Saturday, Oct. 10 for a guided tour of the stately home built by Minnesota’s 14th Governor, John Lind.

A $5 donation helps with home preservation.

Did you know that when the Lind House was built in 1887, it cost $5,000 to build?

Over the years, restoration work has been done to the interior (starting in 1983), the exterior (starting in 2000), roof replacement in 2025, and soon we'll begin rehabilitating the wraparound porch (late 2026-2027).

All of these restorations or repairs are made possible by the generous financial support of community donors, granting organizations, and partnering businesses who help keep the Lind House looking great after nearly 140 years. Thank you!

What is FIKA? ☕

There’s a Swedish word we think you should know.

Fika. (fee-kah)

At its simplest, fika means taking time for coffee and something sweet. But the tradition is really about something more: pausing the day, sitting down together and enjoying a little conversation and connection.

It’s a small ritual with deep Swedish roots—and it feels right at home at the John Lind House.

John Lind was a Swedish immigrant who came to America as a child and went on to become Minnesota’s first Swedish-born governor and the first Swedish American elected to Congress. The New Ulm home he built is part of that Swedish-American story.

So when we began thinking about a signature product that could help support the preservation of the Lind House, we decided to borrow a tradition from the culture that shaped its original owner.

We call our coffee FIKA.

It’s good coffee with a good purpose: every purchase helps support the historic John Lind House.

And we like to think John Lind might have appreciated the idea of people gathering over a cup of coffee, sharing something sweet and staying awhile.

Our thanks to White Boxer Coffee Company for taking our challenge to specially craft a Swedish-style coffee roast!
