The Maryland Board of Public Works today approved $13 million for eight public library capital improvement projects across the state. The grants were made possible by the Maryland State Library Agency's County Library Capital Grant Program.

“Public libraries are absolutely vital,” Governor Wes Moore said. “They’re not just educational support, not just places where we have treasure troves of books, but they’re gathering spots. They’re places where people get together. They’re places where people can get Internet access. They’re places where people's imaginations can run wild about what their long-term contribution is going to be to their communities and their state. They truly serve as community hubs.”

Did you know that Maryland has a circulating library specifically to serve the blind and print disabled? The Archives Library Services team, Megan Craynon & Andy Yamazaki, were honored to host Director of the Maryland State Library for the Blind & Print Disabled (MLBPD), John Owen, for a tour of the Maryland State Archives’ second storage facility. The MLBPD is a unit with the Maryland State Library Agency and is the Regional Network Library for the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled, serving visually challenged individuals across our state. The MLBPD is located on Park Avenue, in Baltimore, open 8am - 5pm, Monday through Friday, and can be contacted by phone: 410-230-2424 or email: reference.desk@maryland.gov to obtain information about their services. The Archives staff are always glad to connect with sister agencies, to learn about their mission and to share information about the work of our agency. The specifics of our work may vary, but we share a passion for serving the people of our state.
