New Windsor Auxiliary Member Kathryn “Kitty” Green Inducted into Carroll County Volunteer Emergency Services Association Hall of Fame

The New Windsor Fire Department and Auxiliary are proud to announce that longtime Auxiliary member Kathryn D. “Kitty” Green has been inducted into the Carroll County Volunteer Emergency Services Association (CCVESA) Hall of Fame, one of the highest honors bestowed upon members of Carroll County’s volunteer emergency services community.

The CCVESA Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, leadership, and service to the volunteer fire, EMS, or administrative services within Carroll County. To be eligible for induction, nominees must have a minimum of twenty years of active service and have made outstanding contributions to their organization and the emergency services community as a whole.

Kitty’s induction is a testament to her remarkable commitment to the New Windsor Auxiliary and the New Windsor Fire Department. According to her nomination submitted by the New Windsor Auxiliary, Kitty joined the Auxiliary in 1957 and has remained an active and dedicated member ever since. For nearly seven decades, she has been a cornerstone of the organization and has contributed countless hours supporting the mission of the department.

Throughout her years of service, Kitty has been actively involved in virtually every Auxiliary activity. She spent many years working in the kitchen and served for several decades as the Auxiliary’s Kitchen Chairperson, helping coordinate meals and support countless department and community events. Even today, Kitty continues to share her knowledge and experience by offering guidance and assistance to Auxiliary members whenever needed.

Kitty also played a significant role in the success of the New Windsor Fire Department’s annual carnival, overseeing food preparation and working in the food stand for more than fifty years. Her dedication helped make the carnival one of the community’s most anticipated annual traditions and a vital fundraising event for the department.

In addition to her work in the kitchen and at the carnival, Kitty has faithfully served as the Assistant Treasurer of the New Windsor Auxiliary for more than 30 years, providing steady leadership and support behind the scenes.

The New Windsor Fire Department extends its sincere congratulations to Kitty on this well-deserved recognition. Her decades of service, unwavering commitment, and positive influence have touched generations of firefighters, Auxiliary members, and community residents.

Thank you, Kitty, for your extraordinary dedication and for helping shape the proud tradition of service that continues at the New Windsor Fire Department today.

Brush 105 Construction Update: New Apparatus Continues to Take Shape

The New Windsor Fire & Hose Company No. 1 is excited to provide our community with an update on the construction of the department’s new Brush 105.

While we have not shared many updates recently, significant progress continues to be made behind the scenes. The new Brush 105 is currently in the midst of fabrication at Vengeant Apparatus, with final fabrication inspections expected to take place in the near future. These inspections represent an important milestone as the project moves one step closer to completion.

The journey toward our new brush truck began with the arrival of the Ford Super Duty chassis at Vengeant Apparatus, marking the official transition from design and planning into the manufacturing phase. Since then, crews at Vengeant have been hard at work transforming the chassis into a custom-built firefighting apparatus designed specifically to meet the needs of the New Windsor community and the challenging environments our firefighters encounter.

When completed, Brush 105 will serve as both a brush truck and a mini-pumper, providing enhanced capabilities for wildland, field, and off-road firefighting operations. The apparatus is being built to access areas that larger fire engines cannot easily reach while still providing significant firefighting capabilities for emergencies throughout our response area and neighboring communities.

The replacement of Brush 105 is a critical component of the department’s long-term apparatus replacement plan. The current brush truck has served the community faithfully for many years, and the new unit will ensure our volunteers have modern, reliable equipment to safely and effectively respond to emergencies for decades to come.

This project would not be possible without the tremendous support of our community. Through carnival proceeds, fundraising events, donations, and community partnerships, the citizens of New Windsor continue to make investments in public safety that directly benefit our firefighters and those we serve.

Stay tuned for more updates as the new Brush 105 continues to take shape!

Reminder: Fire Hydrant Flushing Begins June 1 in New Windsor

The New Windsor Fire Department would like to remind all residents and businesses served by the Town’s public water system that the annual fire hydrant flushing program will begin Monday, June 1, 2026.

The Town of New Windsor Department of Public Works will be conducting routine fire hydrant flushing throughout the community between 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM. This important maintenance program helps ensure the reliability of the water distribution system and confirms that fire hydrants remain operational for emergency response.

What to Expect During Flushing

Residents may notice temporary changes to their water service while hydrants are being flushed, including:

* Temporary Discoloration: Water may appear brown, yellow, or rusty due to sediment being stirred up within the water mains.
* Reduced Water Pressure: Brief fluctuations or reductions in water pressure may occur.
* Cloudy Water: Temporary cloudiness is normal and should clear after running cold water.

Helpful Tips for Residents

To minimize inconvenience during the flushing process, residents are encouraged to:

* Avoid doing laundry during flushing hours or when water discoloration is present, as sediment may stain fabrics.
* Check water clarity before using water for drinking or cooking.
* If discoloration occurs, run cold water from a faucet, preferably at a lower level of your home, until the water clears.
* Avoid using hot water during flushing periods to prevent sediment from entering your hot water tank.
* Keep bottled water available if you rely on water-sensitive appliances or medical equipment.

Why Hydrant Flushing Is Important

Routine hydrant flushing plays a critical role in maintaining both the water system and fire protection capabilities throughout the community by:

* Ensuring hydrants remain operational for firefighting purposes.
* Removing sediment and mineral buildup from water mains.
* Maintaining water quality and system performance.
* Identifying potential system issues before they become larger problems.
* Supporting overall public safety and emergency preparedness.

Areas Affected

This program affects all residents and businesses receiving public water service from the Town of New Windsor.

The New Windsor Fire Department appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation while this important maintenance is completed. Properly maintained hydrants and water infrastructure are essential components of the Town’s fire protection system and overall public safety.
