30 YEARS AGO TODAY, 25 June 1996: Khobar Towers Bombing, Dharan, Saudi Arabia
At approximately 8:00 p.m. a septic truck that had been backed up to the perimeter of the U.S. compound detonated causing a massive explosion at the complex. The Explosion took the lives of 19 airmen and wounded more than 400 other airmen and civilians. One of those wounded was Senior Airman Josephine Keller, 452nd Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, U.S. Air Force. Although stunned and disoriented by the blast, she quickly began to assist with triage and treatment of the wounded. After a day and a half of non-stop activity, two officers asked her if she had been treated. Although she tried to delay treatment, the officers demanded that she be evaluated. She then realized that sha had indeed been wounded!
The events of that night convinced her to make a career of the military and in so doing, not let the terrorists win.
