In his capacity as the United Nations Focal Point to Monitor Antisemitism and Enhance a System-wide Response, Mr. Miguel Ángel Moratinos, High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), participated in the 15th International Meeting of Special Envoys and Coordinators Combating Antisemitism (SECCA), held in Dublin, Ireland. 🎬 A milestone celebration of youth storytelling! 🤩▶️ For the first time, UNAOC's PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival Ceremony took place as part of the 34th annual Hamptons International Film Festival on 9 October! 🎥

Held at the iconic Guild Hall of East Hampton, the ceremony celebrated talented young filmmakers from around the world who are using film to challenge stereotypes, foster dialogue, and promote diversity and social inclusion.

🏆 Congratulations to the 2026 PLURAL+ honourees, whose creativity, courage, and powerful stories remind us that young people are vital agents of positive change!

🌐 This year, outstanding young filmmakers from Benin, Brazil, China, India, the Philippines, Portugal, Spain, and the United States were recognized, with their films screened for HIFF audiences and broadcast live to viewers worldwide via UN Web TV.

With more than 450 submissions from 80 countries this year, PLURAL+ continues to showcase the extraordinary creativity and perspectives of young people committed to making a difference.

Organized by the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) in partnership with HamptonsFilm, the ceremony reaffirmed the power of cinema to bridge cultures, amplify youth voices, and inspire a more inclusive world.

The High Representative for UNAOC and UN Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia, Mr. Miguel Ángel Moratinos, participated in the 47th Assilah International Cultural Moussem, organized by the Assilah Forum Foundation (Fondation du Forum d’Assilah منتدى أصيلة ) under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco.

Speaking in a panel moderated by H.E. Mr. Victor Borges, former Cape Verdean Minister of Foreign Affairs, the High Representative joined other prestigious speakers to discuss the geopolitical dynamics of Africa in the face of global change.

Ms. Nihal Saad, Director of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), addressed the XXIV Session of the Secretariat of the Congress of the Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, held on 7 October 2026 in Astana, Kazakhstan. Bringing together senior religious leaders and representatives of international and faith-based organizations to advance dialogue and cooperation, this year’s session was chaired by H.E. Mr. Erlan Karin, Vice President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Head of the Secretariat of the Congress of the Leaders of World and Traditional Religions.

In her remarks, Ms. Saad highlighted two joint Congress documents: “The Role of Religions in Combating Climate Change” and “Code of Ethics for the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Religious Contexts.” She underscored the contribution faith leaders and religious communities can make to climate action, while underscoring the importance of placing human dignity and ethics at the heart of technological development.

"While the two documents address different subjects, they share a common emphasis on responsibility, dialogue and cooperation. They recognize the value of engaging a broad range of stakeholders in addressing challenges that transcend national borders and affect societies across regions and cultures,” she stressed.

Reaffirming UNAOC’s commitment to advacing dialogue and mutual understanding, Ms. Saad emphasized that addressing complex global challenges requires “not only technical and policy responses, but also sustained dialogue, mutual respect and a shared commitment to advancing the common good.”

At the 2nd International Luxury Awards in Madrid, Mr. Miguel Ángel Moratinos, High Representative for UNAOC and UN Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia, accepted the 💎 Diamond of Excellence Award 💎 on behalf of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC).

🌐🤝🇺🇳 On the margins of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, UNAOC convened the High-level Meeting of its Group of Friends — bringing together Member States and International Organizations to advance dialogue, inclusion, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence. 🕊️

The High Representative for UNAOC and UN Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia, Mr. Miguel Ángel Moratinos, emphasized the enduring commitment of Member States to dialogue, mutual respect, inclusion and peaceful coexistence—and thanked them for their steadfast political and financial support.

“Allow me, first and foremost, to express my sincere gratitude to all members of the Group of Friends for joining us today and for your unwavering support for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations,” he said.

Looking ahead, the High Representative highlighted four key priority areas:

✅ Strengthening institutional development
✅ Preparing for upcoming Global Forums
✅ Addressing discrimination and religious intolerance based on religion or belief
✅ Advancing new UNAOC initiatives

“This year’s meeting should serve not only as a platform for reflection, but also as a catalyst for more action. Much has been done, indeed. Yet we must also recognize that much work remains to be done,” the High Representative concluded. “Your continued support remains indispensable to the success of UNAOC and to our shared mission of building bridges across cultures, religions, and societies.”

The High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), Mr. Miguel Ángel Moratinos, H.E. Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, signed a Memorandum of Understanding reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthen cooperation on promoting dialogue, inclusion and diversity.

The MoU establishes a framework for cooperation between and in areas including intercultural and interreligious dialogue, peacebuilding, youth empowerment, capacity-building, digital inclusion, and efforts to combat hate speech and religious intolerance.

Mr. Miguel Ángel Moratinos, High Representative for UNAOC and UN Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia, delivered special remarks at “AI for Everyone”, a side event on the margins of 81st Session of the UN General Assembly , organized by the Muslim World League.

The gathering embodied the spirit of interfaith harmony — bringing together Muslim, Jewish, and Christian leaders, alongside policymakers and experts, in a shared dialogue on the future of Artificial Intelligence.

In his remarks, the High Representative sounded the alarm on the dangers posed by AI and emphasized the urgent need for accountability, responsible and ethical development, and effective governance. “Left without appropriate guardrails, AI could become a source of disruption that our institutions are unprepared to withstand,” he warned.

“The promise of Artificial Intelligence is too important to abandon. But the risks are too serious to ignore,” he added, calling for strong guardrails, broader participation, and the protection of human dignity.

“The future of AI will be shaped not by technology alone, but by the values we choose to embed within it: human dignity, responsibility, mutual respect, and our shared humanity,” he concluded.

The evening brought together a distinguished group of speakers, including: H.E. Ismaïl Ould Cheikh Ahmed, Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC); H.E. Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Alissa, Secretary General of the Muslim World League; Ms. Malala Yousafzai, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate; Ms. Rebeca Grynspan; and Ms. Ivonne A-Baki, among others.
