Data allows us to ground our choices in evidence. It anchors policy in truth, not noise.

For four decades the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) has shown the power of data to drive change, informing better policies, stronger workplaces and improved outcomes for all of us.

Last week, I joined the Governor-General of Australia and fellow panellists to mark 40 years of WGEA.

Congratulations to the many leaders, advocates, employers and researchers who have contributed to four decades of progress.

From Vava'u to Nuku'alofa, I met students who will be Tonga's future leaders and Australia Awards alumni who are already making a difference in their communities.

Australia Awards has built a network of more than 700 alumni in Tonga working across education, health, government, civil society and business. Their contributions are helping strengthen institutions, expand opportunities and support Tonga's development.

Australia is proud to partner with Tonga in investing in the next generation of leaders and creating opportunities for people to learn, lead and contribute to their communities.

The loss of life and destruction caused by the flash flooding in Nepal and Tibet, China is devastating.
