A special thank you for a donation of masks from Senator Brad Hoylman, masks and gloves from Speaker Cory Johnson, masks from Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer and Sanitizing lotion and masks from Assembly member Deborah Glick, who personally came by our office to drop off the PPE.
One of our younger volunteers since high school, Esteban, now 19 and in College, has made dozens of protective plastic face shields for our volunteers who continue to visit and/or shop. Each mask took him 45 minutes to make. He also has been shopping for food and other necessities for seniors. Thank you Esteban! All of our volunteers are special individuals who make a huge difference in the lives of our older neighbors!
Visiting Neighbors will still be functioning on a limited basis; Mon-Thurs 10am-4pm to assist our seniors who need shopping (for now escorts to/from doctors appts are temporarily suspended). Here you'll find some basic safety tips for dealing with COVID-19 as well as some food for thought. Visiting Neighbors is pleased to announce that we will be hosting our annual Senior Talent Show during the 8th Avenue Festival on Saturday April 26th at 2 PM. Our booth and the stage will be located near 20th Street. Come join us as we cheer on our seniors as they showcase their talents.
We received a lovely thank you letter from one of our seniors that we wanted to share with all of you. For this past Valentine’s Day, we worked in collaboration with a local grade school to create care packages for many of our seniors that included Valentine’s cards from the school’s students. This is the heart warming note we received.
“Please thank everyone for the lovely cards and gifts for Valentine’s Day. That was so thoughtful and it was a beautiful surprise. I didn’t want this day to go by without saying thank you and I love everything. The cards were so charming that the children made. I hope you had as wonderful a holiday. Thank you.”
