The Fricks hosted formal dinners in the Dining Room twice a week, for political figures, business associates, art dealers, and close friends 🍽️🍾

Small as it seems, this was their original dining table. With a leaf extension, it seated some two dozen guests, who enjoyed multi-course feasts influenced by French cuisine. Dinner was often followed by entertainment, from private performances by musical virtuosos to social card games, like auction bridge.

What's an accessory you can't leave the house without? 💍✨

This portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence depicts Julia, Lady Peel (née Floyd), in flamboyant “fancy dress,” rather than the fashion of the day. She wears stacks of sumptuous rings and bracelets, a black hat with cascading red feathers, and a red camellia at her chest, all set against a satin dress and white fur or swan’s down mantle.

When this portrait was first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1827, a critic declared it one of “the highest achievements of modern art.”

On Tuesday evening, The Frick Collection celebrated Annabelle Selldorf at the annual Autumn Dinner.

Principal and founder of Selldorf Architects, Annabelle designed the Frick's award-winning 2021–25 renovation—the institution’s most comprehensive upgrade in ninety years. Axel Rüger, Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Director, and Elizabeth M. Eveillard, Board Chair, introduced Annabelle as the 2026 honoree and presented her with a commemorative silver tray.

Each year, the Autumn Dinner honors an individual who has made significant contributions to the Frick and to arts and culture at large. The gala raises vital funds that support the many activities of the museum and Frick Art Research Library.

Where craftsmanship becomes art ✨

Adriana wears Donna Distefano’s “Off the Canvas” collection in the Dining Room of The Frick Collection: “Mistress” pearl earrings inspired by Vermeer, amethyst and tourmaline rings inspired by Renaissance portraits, and a gold “Love the Jester” necklace inspired by Fragonard.

Her lapel blooms with exquisitely crafted 22-karat gold “Lady Sarah Innes” rose brooches, drawn from Gainsborough and sculpted using ancient metalsmithing techniques.

In “Off the Canvas,” art history finds new expression. Discover the collection at the Frick’s Museum Shop and online at shop.frick.org.

We love our educators! 🍎

Last month, we had the pleasure of hosting a special “Evening for Educators” at the Frick. Teachers, college and university faculty and staff, and other educators from across the city joined us for an after-hours celebration with gallery talks, sketching, live music, and a reception in the Garden Court. The Frick’s Education and Library staff answered questions and shared resources for students and teachers.

Are you an educator? Learn more about guided school and college visits at frick.org/groups, and explore our full range of upcoming programs at frick.org/programs.
