Immigrants and immigrant small businesses Power New York ⚡️💸⚙️🗽!
 
Last week, MOIA Commissioner Faiza N. Ali and our team joined Afua Atta-Mensah | Commissioner | to visit Flatbush Central Caribbean Marketplace, in the heart of Little Caribbean and Little Haiti.
 
For over 30 years, this marketplace has been a central third space for Brooklyn locals and a commercial hub where neighbors and visitors can get authentic Caribbean food and goods. In recent years, it has become home to a community workspace and business incubator for local entrepreneurs, facilitated by Mangrove FC, giving them the tools, skills, and knowledge to build their businesses and create pathways to wealth.

As ☀️Summer 2026 comes to an end, we are making sure to enjoy the sunny weather outside. What better way to enjoy it than to spend this time meeting and connecting with 🗽 New Yorkers? 

Our team partnered with our friends at NYC Mayor's Public Engagement to canvass in Jamaica, Queens, raise awareness of the NYCSBS’s Workforce1 Career Centers in the neighborhood, and share essential resources. 

Together, we shared over 250 essential City resources, including materials on professional development, , legal immigration service palm cards, and information on TPS updates, in multiple languages to ensure our immigrant neighbors have the support they need.

Last Week, we had another impactful at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst in and at NYC Health+Hospitals/Lincoln in the Bronx, with our amazing partners at NYC Health + Hospitals.
 
It has been a privilege to collaborate over the years to raise awareness and expand access to vital resources. Our efforts and collaboration have helped our neighbors know they are part of a supportive and consistent community that will help them navigate and connect with essential services.  
 
Our team was happy to share City resources with participants, including MOIA’s , materials for families, with ICE, help understanding the .nyc application process, and more.

MOIA recently facilitated an Immigrant Rights Workshop ( ) Presentation in in Brooklyn.
 
Thank you, United Chinese Association of Brooklyn, for hosting our team. This presentation allowed us to spend more time with our neighbors by answering questions and sharing more in-depth information on City resources and services available to all New Yorkers, regardless of language spoken or immigration status.
 
We also shared essential information on MOIA’s Immigration Legal Service Hotline, materials, and more.

Today, MOIA Commissioner Faiza N. Ali joined , New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC), Hands off NYC Families, and education advocates to send a clear message to immigrant families ahead of the first day of school: you belong here, you are welcome here, and your city is standing with you. 

Our team at MOIA is expanding outreach and distributing resources in multiple languages, so families know what to do if they encounter ICE. If you need trusted immigration legal help, call our Immigration Legal Support Hotline at 800-354-0365 to get connected to free, safe, and confidential legal help.  

We also want families to take steps now to be prepared. Make sure your child’s emergency contact information at school is up to date, and that the school knows who you trust to pick up your child if you cannot. These simple steps can make an enormous difference in a moment of crisis. 

To our immigrant families: you are not alone. As our students head back to school, let’s make this a year of possibility, opportunity, and hope.
