In New York City, the gig economy is a lifeline for around 800,000 workers, yet many face income instability and lack essential benefits. Most NYC gig workers, including delivery drivers and freelance contractors, earn between $28,000 and $40,000 annually, often without health coverage or job security. While gig work offers flexibility, many families are vulnerable, especially in challenging economic times.

A promising alternative for gig workers is healthcare—a stable, high-demand field with structured career paths. Certified nursing assistants (CNAs) in NYC earn an average of $45,000 per year, with opportunities to advance as licensed practical nurses (LPNs) or registered nurses (RNs). In just a few years, a healthcare worker’s salary can double, with NYC RNs earning a median salary of $93,000 annually.
