La lucha contra los BIDs continua. Como sabemos ya por experiencia organizando mas de 10 años, los primeros de ser afectados y eliminados de la comunidad son los trabajadores independientes, como los vendedores ambulantes. Hemos sido parte de esta lucha y tenemos que seguir apoyando a los compañeros de la Roosevelt.

After two years fighting his case from immigration detention centers, our good friend and member of Vamos Unidos is finally out. He has endured many injustices. Vamos Unidos has helped him throughout this entire process. We now move to provide him immediate support and a means to make a living as a street vendor. We are glad to see Segundo is doing better and free.

We are sad to inform folks that a street vendor, Faustino, of the VAMOS Unidos family was murdered as he prepared to work in his spot in the Bronx. Faustino was a beloved member of the vending community, a gentle man that supported his disabled child in Mexico by selling fruits and vegetables. We will be asking for donations and holding a vigil for Faustino in the coming days.

Lamentamos informar que un vendedor de la familia de VAMOS Unidos fue asesinado mientras se preparaba para vender sus frutas y vegetales aquí en el Bronx. Faustino ayudaba a su familia en Mexico, especialmente su hijo que era desabilitado. Estaremos tomando donaciones para su familia y haremos una vigila en los próximo días para recordar a nuestro compañero Faustino.

We know this very well, as street vendors are at the forefront of these fines as families take onto the streets to work and survive in New York City.

Every morning, hundreds of people line up at the city's dingy summons courts, clutching pink slips for such petty infractions as walking through the park after dark, bicycling on the sidewalk, disorderly conduct, drinking in public, and even spitting on the street.

After 30 years of working with no permit on Roosevelt Avenue, Queens, enduring thousands of dollars in summons, abusive treatment by authorities, ridicule from elites, overcoming addiction, cancer, and becoming an example of leadership and solidarity in the community, Alfonso got his vending cart permit today with the financial and logistical help of his organization, VAMOS UNIDOS. Although I have personally been present for numerous precious moments like these, this was a very sweet moment for myself. I am humbled by this man's generosity, sweetness, fight for justice, and love for the world.

VAMOS UNIDOS, a signator, presente at rally to support the development of the Kingsbridge Armory. We were able to secure the largest community benefits agreement to date, hundreds of jobs in the building and maintenance of the Armory for residents of the Bronx, 50,000 square feet for community and millions to develop and maintain. Vendors have been part of this process to ensure their inclusion and to maintain community control.
