Volunteers from American Eagle stopped by Saratoga to help get the Early Ed and Afterschool gardens ready to bloom for summer! đŸŒ»đŸŒ±

They planted perennials, sunflowers, and other colorful flowers to brighten up the outdoor spaces. The little ones in Early Ed were excited to see the fresh flowers growing and stopped outside to thank the volunteers and help water the new plants.

A big thank you to our new and longtime friends at American Eagle for their hard work and generous donation in support of our programming!

Saratoga Afterschool is staying engaged through programming that encourages leadership, creativity, and collaboration. New Director Keniesha Lawson shared a sneak peek into what students have been up to lately:

“During reading time, one of our amazing 5th graders took the lead by reading aloud to a 1st grader and a kindergartener. Our older students are actively learning and becoming role models while our younger learners stay engaged and excited about books. Creativity was also in full swing during piano lessons with Mr. Bennet. Students gathered, explored rhythms, and built their musical skills together.”

S’more sunshine, s’more fun! â˜€ïžđŸ« The Prospect Panthers recently soaked up the warm weather with a sweet science experiment—solar s’mores. The kids created their own solar ovens by lining pans with foil, layering graham crackers and Hershey’s chocolate inside, and sealing them with plastic wrap to trap the sun’s heat. As the sunlight warmed the treats, the chocolate melted to gooey perfection before the kids added marshmallows and enjoyed their delicious creations.

While their solar-powered snacks baked, they spent time outdoors running around the playground, playing giant Connect Four, and enjoying the beautiful spring weather.

A huge thank you to UallNatural—including hairstylist Adele Christine Francesca Stewart—for bringing together an incredible team of hairstylists, a barber, a makeup artist, and beauty professionals to create a special day of pampering for the moms at Williamsbridge and their families.

Families enjoyed a relaxing spa-day experience complete with hair styling, braids, silk presses, barber services, makeup, food, drinks, music, and photo opportunities to show off their glam looks. More than just a makeover day, the event created space for moms to relax, feel celebrated, and enjoy time together.

Thank you to all of the amazing women and volunteers who helped make this celebration possible and reminded the moms just how special and appreciated they are.

Our Executive Director John Greenwood recently attended the Queen’s Reading Room Roundtable at NYPL The New York Public Library alongside leaders in the literary, publishing, education communities for an event hosted by Her Majesty Queen Camilla.

The Queen’s Reading Room champions the power of books and reading while partnering with non-profits—including homelessness and domestic violence organizations—helping connect people through reading and bringing books into spaces where they are needed most.

We’re honored to be part of the broader conversation around literacy, education, and the power of reading to strengthen communities.

Allie’s Gators recently became junior meteorologists when Mr. Jay Fray, “The Weather Guy,” stopped by to teach them all about clouds and weather patterns. They learned about different types of clouds, how they form, and where they appear in the atmosphere. ⛅

They created edible “Cloud Parfaits” using graham crackers, whipped cream, and marshmallows to model the layers of clouds in the sky. The class even took time to look out the window and identify real clouds overhead—spotting a few fluffy cumulus clouds drifting by! ☁

At Prospect Afterschool, students are getting charged up about science with Mad Science!⚡They recently learned how electricity flows through a circuit by acting out the different parts of the process, from the power source and electrons to the light bulb and switch. Through this demonstration, students became the moving parts of a working circuit and saw how electricity travels from one point to another.

They then experimented with real circuit components using mini lightbulbs, buzzers, batteries, switches, and wires.🔋💡 They learned that metal wires are great conductors because they allow electrons to flow, creating current electricity. When the switch closed the circuit, the buzzer sounded and the bulb lit up, bringing the lesson to life!
