The future building leaders of NYC are already hard at work in our classrooms ✨

As part of the city's first-ever Child Care Educator Appreciation Month, Commissioner Tigani visited District 2 3K/Pre-K Centers at Battery to celebrate the educators helping shape the next generation.

From discussing the challenges facing the child care workforce to talking with students about public service, the visit was a reminder that investing in children starts with supporting the educators who help them learn, grow, and thrive.

Thank you to our child care providers for the essential work you do for New York City's families and communities every day. And thanks to the NYC Mayor's Office of Child Care and Early Childhood Education for promoting such a spectacular program!

Happy Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (AAPI) from DOB ❤🍵

DOB’s AAPI Employee Resource Group held a Tea Experience earlier this week, full of fun, learning, and tasty tea.

Many of these New Yorkers with AAPI ancestry have established themselves as major drivers in the construction and development industries here in New York City, putting an indelible mark on the City’s building stock. On construction sites across NYC, it’s not uncommon to hear contractors and laborers speaking Mandarin, Cantonese, Bengali, Korean, or Urdu.

These contractors are building skyscrapers designed by AAPI architects like architectural titan I.M. Pei, designed some of the most important modernist buildings across the country including the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan

New Yorkers of Asian American and Pacific Islander heritage, including those working here at DOB, continue to be a source of strength for our growing city, in no small part thanks to their strong cultural traditions.

here’s a reason why DOB is considered one of the best agencies in the world at large-scale disaster response, and it’s due in no small part to our annual full-scale emergency exercise trainings we conduct. Because the best way to respond to an disaster is by being prepared 🫡

We completed out 2026 New York City Continuity of Operations (COOP) Full-Scale Exercise Training last week, where DOB’s Emergency Management Unit provided hands-on rehearsals of protocols for wide-scale natural disasters affecting urban buildings.

It’s because of trainings like this that our staff get called to respond to disasters all over the country. From hurricanes, to floods, and earthquakes, when we’re needed we answer the call.

Global collaboration for a more sustainable future 🌍

This week, Commissioner Ahmed Tigani and our Sustainability Bureau welcomed Mark McAllister and the leadership team from Ofgem, the UK government’s energy regulator, for a discussion on building decarbonization, affordability, sustainability, and the future of resilient cities.

With NYC continuing to be a global leader on climate and sustainability policy, the conversation focused on how governments can support innovation, strengthen infrastructure, and advance the transition to net zero, while keeping communities affordable and resilient.

The meeting was an important opportunity to exchange ideas, share best practices, and explore future collaboration between NYC and UK partners working toward a more sustainable future for all!

Commissioner Tigani joined the New York City African Council for the Africa Day celebration and flag raising ceremony in Lower Manhattan earlier this week 🌍

The event brought together New York City’s African diaspora communities, elected officials, and African ambassadors to celebrate Africa Day and recognize the unity, culture, and contributions of nations across the continent.

We were proud to honor the continent of Africa, celebrate the achievements of the African Union since its founding, and recognize the lasting impact African New Yorkers have had on building and shaping the city’s built environment, from construction and engineering to design, development, and the communities that make our city thrive.
