Did you know? 🇺🇸🇪🇸

Many U.S. states have names rooted in exploration. In 1513, Juan Ponce de León named , likely inspired by Pascua Florida (the Easter season) and the region’s lush vegetation.

Other states also reflect Spanish influence: (“reddish”), (“snow-covered”), and (“mountainous”) were all named by Spanish explorers describing the landscape.

Some names combine Spanish and Indigenous origins. comes from a Caddo word meaning “friend,” adapted into Spanish, while was inspired by a 16th-century Spanish novel, Las sergas de Esplandián.

¿Sabías que...? 🇺🇸🇪🇸

Has been kicked out of … or banned from ?! 🇪🇸 👣🇮🇹

If you’ve opened social media in the last 48 hours, the headlines sound alarming. Following the news around and , clickbait posts are claiming Spain has been "expelled" from or that European travel is shut down.

Let's cut right to the facts:

No, Spain hasn't been expelled from Schengen.

No, travel between Spain and the rest of Europe is not blocked.

What actually happened?

In response to the events in Ceuta, Italy introduced temporary passport and ID checks on flights and ferry arrivals coming from Spain.
Under EU law, member states have always had the right to temporarily reintroduce internal border checks during high-profile situations or periods of heightened concern. It’s a standard policy tool, not an expulsion, and not a permanent closure.

What does this mean for you?

If you’re traveling between Spain and Italy (or anywhere else in the region), keep your valid passport or ID card accessible, allow a few extra minutes for potential spot-checks at airports or ports, and carry on with your plans as usual.

🇪🇸 Hidden Heritage of : The Cave Homes of

📍Guadix, province, Andalusia

Did you know that Guadix is home to the highest concentration of cave houses in Europe? Carved directly into the soft clay hills surrounding the town, these unique homes have been inhabited for centuries and remain a living part of Andalusian culture today.

🏡 Why cave homes are so special:

* They maintain a natural temperature year-round — cool in summer and warm in winter.
* Many were originally developed after the Reconquista as practical, affordable homes.
* From the outside, you often only see whitewashed facades and chimneys, while entire homes extend underground.
* Today, many caves have been transformed into boutique stays, museums, and family homes while preserving their traditional architecture.

Guadix offers a fascinating blend of history, sustainability, and cultural resilience — showing how communities adapted to their environment long before modern climate-control systems existed.

If you visit southern Spain, Guadix is one of those places that feels both ancient and alive at the same time.

🇪🇸 Guadix reminds us how language, culture, geography, and history are all deeply connected. One of the many reasons learning opens the door to discovering amazing places like this.

Have you ever visited a place with cave homes before? 👇

One of my favorite things about CT Spanish Club is watching children express themselves through art, and these holiday crafts are the perfect example!

Last week, students painted, glued, decorated, and designed their own ornaments while practicing Spanish vocabulary in a hands-on, joyful way:
🎨 colores - colors
🖌️ pintar - to paint
🌟 brillar - shine
🐱 el gato - the cat
👼 el ángel - the angel

Now these beautiful creations are decorating our homes and bringing holiday cheer to every corner.
I’m so proud of their creativity!

Every week in CT Spanish Club, I get to watch children say their first full phrases in , naturally, joyfully, and without pressure. ❤️

These everyday expressions are part of what we practice in class through play, teamwork, movement, and storytelling. Language becomes something they live, not something they memorize.

If you’ve been thinking about introducing your child to Spanish, this is the perfect time to begin.
Small groups, hands-on learning, and a warm bilingual community.
