Lent-Riker-Smith Homestead

Lent-Riker-Smith Homestead This page is about the oldest inhabited private dwelling in New York City, the Lent-Riker-Smith Homestead.

The purpose of the Lent-Riker-Smith Homestead Preservation Corporation is to maintain the historically significant property, the Lent-Riker-Smith Homestead, located in Queens, NY, circa 1654. The 360-year-old farmhouse is a significant part of early Dutch and colonial history in New York and is included on the National Register of Historic Places. Landmarked in 1966, the Homestead sits on an acre

of land and includes the Riker family burial ground consisting of 132 Rikers and Riker descendants. Currently, tours are given to help educate school children, tourists and New Yorkers about these early settlers and to experience what an actual 1600s era farmhouse looked like back then. In addition to hundreds of flowers and dozens of trees, the grounds also feature a secret garden and a gingerbread house.
