NEW MEMBERS: Ready to lock in your TRS membership?

· Remember to register online for secure access to the member section of the TRS website.
· Notify TRS if you hold prior membership in another New York State public retirement system or TIAA.
If you worked with another public employer, you may qualify for eligible service credit with TRS, so be sure to let us know!
· Be sure to upload proof of your date of birth (e.g., birth certificate, passport, naturalization documents, or driver's license).

You can increase or decrease your percentage at any time during the year via the Member Portal. Even a 1% increase today can lead to significant compound growth by the time you’re ready to retire. Now is the right time to take five minutes to check your contribution rate.

You may be eligible to transfer your service credit or combine your membership history, which could impact your tier status and retirement benefits. Log in to your portal or reach out to TRS so we can help you connect your prior service.

All new members need to upload their proof of date of birth to complete their account setup. You can easily submit a copy of your birth certificate, passport/naturalization document, or driver’s license/state ID from NY, CT, PA, or FL right through your online portal.

Checking this off your list now means one less administrative item to worry about later!
