The Sikh Officers Association proudly participated in National Police Week in Washington, DC, paying tribute to the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. We stood united at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, honoring the fallen heroes whose selfless service and unwavering dedication will never be forgotten.

As we remembered those who gave their lives to protect our communities, we were humbled to represent our great department alongside law enforcement officers from across the nation. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the families of the fallen, and we are committed to carrying on their legacy of courage and sacrifice.

History Made! Congratulations to Pratima Bhullar Maldonado on her well-earned promotion to Deputy Inspector.

Her achievement reflects years of dedication, leadership, and professionalism. She made history as the first Sikh female Captain in the New York City Police Department and serves as the Commanding Officer of the 102nd Precinct. She now continues to break barriers as the first female Sikh Deputy Inspector in the department and the highest-ranking female Sikh in the NYPD.

This is a proud moment not only for the Sikh Officers Association, but for the entire Sikh community.

Members of the Sikh Officers Association proudly marched in the 38th Annual Sikh Day Parade. Despite the heavy rain, our members continued to represent both their faith and the NYPD with pride.

This day holds deep meaning for Sikhs. Vaisakhi marks the birth of the Khalsa, established by Guru Gobind Singh Ji in 1699, and is rooted in values of courage, equality, selfless service, and justice. These values guide how we live and serve every day.

Wearing the uniform as both a Sikh and a police officer is a responsibility we carry with pride. Our commitment to protecting others, serving the community, and acting with integrity reflects these principles.

We are honored to stand with a community that represents resilience, unity, and faith, rain or shine.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of retired Deputy Sheriff Tajinder “Taj” Kooner, a proud member of the Sikh Officers Association and a dedicated member of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Kooner honorably served his community for over 26 years, leaving behind a legacy of commitment, professionalism, and respect among his peers. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Please keep his family, friends, and colleagues in your prayers during this difficult time. His service and legacy will not be forgotten.
