The Players Theatre A space for New York performances and rehearsals located in the heart of Greenwich Village. A space for New York City performances and rehearsals.
(236)

The building includes a main stage 248 seat Off-Broadway theatre, a 50 seat Off-Off-Broadway black box theatre, four rehearsal studios, an office suite for arts organizations, and the famous Cafe Wha?, which has been a Greenwich Village mainstay since the 1960's. Built in 1907 and converted into a theatre in the late 1940's, the Players Theatre has been a jewel in the midst of beautiful Greenwich Village, serving as a magnet for performing artists and their audiences. The theatre has been home to such long run productions as AN EVENING WITH QUENTIN CRISP, PSYCHO BEACH PARTY, and RUTHLESS (starring then 8-year-old Laura Bell Bundy, understudied by Brittany Spears and Natalie Portman). New productions include the haunting show PLAY DEAD co-written by Teller (of Penn and Teller) and Todd Robbins. If you are interested in staying informed of all that is happening at the Players Theatre and receiving special discounts please sign up for the theatre's monthly e-newsletter. Players Theatre Self Producing Artist Residency
The Players Theatre is committed to supporting original plays and musicals on their journey to an Off-Broadway or New York run. While many productions progress to readings and festivals, only a select few move beyond these stages. This residency is designed to help bridge that gap by providing mentorship and a theatre subsidy, empowering creative teams to successfully self-produce their work.

Proposals should Include:
- a brief description of play or musical
- estimated length or running time
⁃ number of actors and musicians
⁃ link to sample tracks (musicals only)
⁃ development history
⁃ creative team bios
- PDF of script/book

Proposals are due by October 15th 2026. Click here to submit: https://playerstheatre.submittable.com/submit/130584/players-theatre-self-producing-artist-residency
