The Marsha and Sylvia Plan, released by NYC's LGBTQIA Caucus, charts a roadmap for a more equitable city. Our recent listening session delved into its impact across nine key areas, featuring a roundtable discussion with Caucus members and Council leaders. Moderated by Ace Sutherland from Equality New York and The Center, the dialogue highlighted crucial policy opportunities and community needs.

While applauding the intentional focus on at-risk groups, we advocate for more explicit attention to TGNC New Yorkers and issues like mental health, food insecurity, economic justice, and safety, particularly concerning incarceration. Join us in shaping a more inclusive future!

“We’ve been through so much together. And as I say farewell as Executive Director, I call on all of you to come together, as you always have, and show that love is stronger than hate. The Center is a life-changing and life-saving organization. Every day, we help real people live better lives, and there is nothing more important. Every day at The Center I see our community showing up for each other. In order to survive and thrive as LGBTQ+ people, we must do so together. Our collective history has shown us that together, we can overcome obstacles and reach beyond negative circumstances. In fact, that’s how we make history. That’s how we heal, and that’s how we succeed."

"Thank you for consistently showing up for LGBTQ+ New Yorkers, for The Center, and for me. That is what I ask from all of you for the next CEO of The Center. Please show up for them. Please be as generous, honest, and kind as you have been to me. I am forever grateful for my time leading this incredible organization and for your generosity and support. Thank you. Happy Holidays, and cheers to everything wonderful still to come!” - Glennda Testone

Day With(out) Art 2023: EVERYONE I KNOW IS SICK is a program of six videos generating connections between HIV and other forms of illness and disability by Visual AIDS.

Inspired by a statement from Cyrée Jarelle Johnson in the book Black Futures, Everyone I Know Is Sick examines how our society excludes disabled and sick people by upholding a false dichotomy of health and sickness.

Inviting us to understand disability as a common experience rather than an exception to the norm, the program highlights a range of experiences spanning HIV, COVID, mental health, and aging. The commissioned artists foreground the knowledge and expertise of disabled and sick people in a world still grappling with multiple ongoing pandemics.
