APEC Hikers

APEC Hikers APEC Hikers is a Hiking Club program for adults of Alley Pond Environmental Center. We go for evening walks on a weekly basis during the nice weather.

We enjoy monthly outings that our volunteer leaders plan. Our planning meetings occur monthly at APEC While our activities are currently suspended due to COVID restrictions, you are pointed to the activities sponsored by Alley Pond Environmental Center and NYC Parks for Alley Pond Park. Our Hiking Club supports APEC by helping to maintain its trails and other operations, and to provide fellowship,

exercise, and enjoyment of nature for adults. Membership is offered to those who have joined Alley Pond Environmental Center (see their web site for their dues schedule). The Club dues (additional) also provide for membership in a Trail Conference. The Club is self-sustaining and provides for this and its other expenses by each member chipping in $3 per monthly outing that you attend, or, at our monthly meeting if you attend only the local hikes in season. Our local hikes are in the Bayside, Douglaston, Little Neck areas. Our outings go further afield. We seek to travel by ride-sharing and related cost-sharing. Any entry costs (such as to historical sites) are individual costs. The Empire Passport is used by our drivers, as is the Golden Passport (Federal) to reduce these costs for the group.

“It is, in the deepest sense, a privilege as well as a duty to have the opportunity to speak out — to many thousands of people — on something so important.”

Don’t forget to visit Taconic State Park during the week of Earth Day. Instead of a day we are celebrating all week with a challenge activity. Get outside, have some fun, and learn about going green. Stop into the Copake Falls Park Office to pick up your own activity sheet to complete.

Tick Bite Prevention Tip 1:
Don’t forget, ticks can be active on any days warmer than about 40֯ F. While enjoying the outdoors, remember that ticks can be active anywhere in your yard, trails, parks, and areas with wooded edges, brush, leaf litter. Always check yourself from head to toe for ticks after spending time outdoors.
