On this day in 1919, Black sharecroppers in Elaine, Arkansas, gathered in a church to organize for fair wages. That night, white men fired into the church.

What followed was one of the deadliest racial massacres in U.S. history. Soldiers, ordered by the governor, indiscriminately attacked Black men, women and children. Hundreds were killed.

Today, we honor and remember all those who lost their lives in Elaine.

8,500 tickets were issued to motorists who drove by a school bus with a stop arm extended during the 2024-25 school year. Every violation is a potential tragedy. A few seconds saved on your commute is not worth the risk to a child’s life.
