Dmitri Yermakov (Russian Empire/Georgia 1846–1916) A Wine Seller with Wine Skins, Tbilisi c. 1880. Yermakov, was a Russian Empire photographer known for his series of Caucasian photographs. He was born in Tiflis/Georgia in 1846, the son of the Italian architect Luigi Caribaggio and a Georgian mother of Austrian descent. She remarried the Russian Yermakov whose surname her son Dmitri took. Trained as a military topographer, he took part in the Russo-Turkish War (1877–1878).

U.S. Imports of Wine, Beer, and Spirits, 1992–2025.
From their peak value of $6.217 billion in 2022, U.S. wine imports fell by 14.9% to $5.292 billion in 2025. Much more extreme: during the same period, spirits imports fell from $12.629 billion to $8.764 billion — a decline of 30.6%

At the Knickerbocker Warehouse, New York City, all liquors and beers are taken to be destroyed after being analyzed by chemists to determine the poison sold as real liquor. The photo shows chief chemist J.W. Quillen holding the only two good quarts found, while the bottles on the shelves and floor are all moonshine bearing counterfeit labels.

11% of young Europeans (aged 15–29) are neither working nor studying. Rates range from just 4.2% in Iceland to 26.3% in Türkiye (2025 data). The map covers EU, EFTA, and EU candidate countries (the UK does not belong to any of those).

Dry counties were already widespread by 1880 — four decades before national Prohibition began in 1920.
At the state level, Kansas was dry for 67 years (1881–1948, plus a saloon ban until 1987), Mississippi for 58 years (1908–1966), and Oklahoma for 52 years (1907–1959).
