This week’s author spotlight is Carrie R. Moore for her book ‘Make Your Way Home’, which was already longlisted for The PEN/Faulker Award, The Story Prize, and the PEN Open Book Award.
Among other publications, Moore’s writing has appeared in The Best American Short Stories, Oprah Daily, American Short Fiction, The Sewanee Review, and One Story. Moore earned her MFA in Fiction at the Michener Center for Writers. In 2026, the National Book Foundation named her a 5 under 35 honoree. Born in Georgia, she resides in Texas with her husband, where she continues to write about Black love and longing.
In eleven stories that span Florida marshes, North Carolina mountains, and Southern metropolitan cities, Make Your Way Home follows Black men and women who grapple with the homes that have eluded them. Artfully and precisely drawn, and steeped in place and history as it explores themes of belonging, inheritance, and deep intimacy, Moore’s debut collection announces an extraordinary new talent in American fiction, inviting us all to examine how the past shapes our present—and how our present choices will echo for years to come.
