Adhikaar Adhikaar, meaning rights, is the only women-led community and worker center serving and organizing the Nepali-speaking immigrant and refugee community.

We have four program areas: workers' rights, immigration rights, healthcare access and language justice Adhikaar is the only women-led worker and community center that serves and organizes the Nepali-speaking immigrant and refugee community. Adhikaar is a home away from home that
builds leadership and power to win rights and improve working conditions across low-wage industries. To achieve our mission, we
--facilitate access to information and resources on immigration, health, workers' rights, and other issues;
--organize community members to collectively advocate against social injustices and human rights abuses;
--conduct participatory research and policy advocacy on issues affecting our community;

🌱 What does it look like to build a future while staying connected to your roots?

At Adhikaar’s Youth Forum, young people explored career possibilities with professionals in filmmaking, illustration, government, nonprofit work, and engineering; shared experiences around identity, cultural expectations, and mental health; and explored pathways to college and beyond.

From asking how AI is changing creative careers to exchanging strategies for navigating stress and building community, youth had space to ask questions, learn from one another, and imagine new possibilities for themselves.

The forum was more than a day of learning. It strengthened connections between new and returning youth, inspired future leaders, and opened doors to continued involvement in Adhikaar’s work. 💛

Here’s to creating spaces where young people feel seen, supported, and empowered to shape their futures!

50+ Organizations. One Urgent Call: Nepal Must Formally Request TPS.

Together with NRNA USA and more than 50 Nepali and allied organizations across the U.S., Adhikaar has submitted a joint appeal urging the Government of Nepal to formally request a new Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation following the devastating August 26 floods.

As Nepal faces successive climate-related disasters, families are grieving, rebuilding, and relying on loved ones abroad for critical support. Deportation and family separation would only deepen this crisis.

Our appeal builds on bipartisan support from 57 Members of Congress and calls for TPS, Deferred Enforced Departure (DED), and a temporary pause on deportations.

Nepal’s recovery must include protecting its diaspora. We urge the Government of Nepal to act without delay.

Namaste, Dear Friends ❤️

For so many of us living far from home, Adhikaar has become our maitighar—a place where we find friendship, comfort, and a sense of family.

These past months have been especially difficult. Many in our community have lost loved ones, and others continue to worry about families back home. Through it all, Adhikaar’s doors have remained open. And that’s what family does. We show up for each other.

This Dashain, the Adhikaar family warmly invites you to come home, share a meal, reconnect, and find moments of joy together.

During Nepal’s delegation’s visit to New York for the recently concluded 81st UNGA, Adhikaar consistently raised the concerns of working-class Nepalis facing economic hardship, immigration crackdowns, and family separation.

The call for diaspora “money, talent, and networks” is also an opportunity to recognize workers whose everyday labor sustains Nepal. Workers’ remittances were equivalent to 35.8% of Nepal’s GDP in 2025/26. Behind that figure are people whose contributions deserve recognition and whose struggles deserve a meaningful response. As a women-founded and women-led organization, Adhikaar understands the persistence it takes to create space in predominantly male leadership circles. We will keep speaking up. Ensuring women and working-class communities help shape the agenda, however, must be a shared commitment. Inclusivity in diaspora dialogue must be non-negotiable.

A meaningful relationship with the diaspora means valuing what people give and standing with them when they need support.
