Consul General’s Engagements – Tuesday, November 18, Philadelphia PA
The Consul General undertook a full day of high-level engagements across Philadelphia, advancing Barbados’ strategic, economic, and community interests.
The day began with a constructive meeting with the City of Philadelphia’s Department of Commerce and Office of Immigrant Affairs, where discussions with senior leadership focused on opportunities for strengthening business connections with the city.
This was followed by an engagement at the World Trade Center of Greater Philadelphia, resulting in a significant outcome, Barbados has secured a placement at the 56th Annual Global Forum in April 2026.
At the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia, the Consul General met with the President & CEO to explore areas for collaboration, including efforts to deepen aviation linkages and broaden international engagement.
A working lunch at the Union League of Philadelphia brought together leaders of the Consular Corps Association and regional partners. Discussions highlighted Barbados’ priorities in disaster preparedness, agricultural resilience, particularly the development of a seed bank programme, and strengthening ties with the Children’s Hospital as part of the Consulate’s emerging disaster response framework.
The Consul General then toured B-Labs / B+Labs, receiving an in-depth look at Philadelphia’s cutting-edge life sciences ecosystem and examining opportunities to model similar innovation-driven support systems for startups in Barbados.
Strategic dialogue continued at Bellevue Strategies, focusing on enhancing Barbados’ footprint in the region, the use of data analytics, and maximizing information resources to drive economic and diplomatic outcomes.
The day concluded with a dinner meeting with business and community leaders, including Barbadian professionals in the diaspora, to explore partnerships, sector opportunities, and avenues for expanding the Barbados Business Network.
