Freedomland U.S.A. - The World's Largest Entertainment Center American history theme park in The Bronx 1960-1964 On June 19, 1960, America was introduced to a unique theme park.

Unlike those that came before it and certainly never duplicated since, Freedomland U.S.A. incorporated American history into family entertainment. In the northeast part of the New York City borough of The Bronx, Freedomland U.S.A. was billed as "the world’s largest entertainment center." On the first day, more than 60,000 people passed through its gates. They experienced cowboy shootouts, train robberies and space travel. All of it was situated on 85 acres carved into the shape of a map of the continental U.S.

To promote this song, Little Eva (Eva Narcissus Boyd) joined Carole King, Gerry Goffin and record producers Al Nevins and Don Kirschner at Freedomland for a photo shoot with one of the park locomotives. We have the photos to prove it and we’ve posted a few over the years.

Eva left us too soon (2003).

“Cedar Point - Rolling Through The Years” - 2

Page 51 in Section Five Former Rides: The Freedomland Earthquake dark ride. We did not know this fact: “The Earthquake ride was scheduled to open at Cedar Point in 1964, but the shipment was delayed by a transportation worker strike.”

For the entire 1964 season, Freedomland’s San Francisco area was closed to the public. The public did not know that Earthquake already had been removed from the park. The walls that enclosed the themed area featured signs that indicated a better Freedomland would arrive for 1965. Of course, management knew this to be a false statement.

Legendary singer and Freedomland entertainer Dionne Warwick made the difficult decision to cancel a weekend performance at Carnegie Hall due to mobility issues. The five-time Grammy winner was slated to appear Sunday (October 11, 2026) at the Deborah Silver & Fabulous Friends: Voices for ALS charity benefit at Zankel Hall in New York City.

“I’m sorry to have had to cancel the chance to see you all at Carnegie,” Dionne, 85, said in a statement to “The New York Post.” She added: “My leg and foot would not allow me to stand nor walk at the moment.”

Dionne appeared at Freedomland May 16-17, 1964. We send along best wishes.

Singer Johnny Horton meets a young lady during his July 26, 1960 visit to Freedomland. She could be one of nine essay contest winners who met Johnny at the park.

The contest — “What Freedomland Means To Me” — was sponsored by Columbia Records. The company issued the 45 rpm “Johnny Freedom” sung by Johnny Horton along with the park’s record album.

In the background, Freedomland’s Dixie Land Band plays at The Plantation House restaurant.
