Our very own VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Tax Manager & Advocacy Coordinator, Juan, attended VITACon at University of Minnesota this past week! The summit gathered VITA providers, policymakers, and leaders across finance, tech, and philanthropy to discuss how we can continue supporting families.

As a VITA site, CFL provides free tax prep services to New York families. On average, our VITA program generates $7.9 million in tax returns for over 5,400 Sunset Park residents annually.

We are grateful to Juan and all of our volunteer tax preparers for the work they do!

We are honored to announce that Center for Family Life's Executive Director, Julia Jean-Francois (pictured above with our Community Services team), has been recognized as one of Brooklyn Org’s 25 Changemakers at their Changemakers Ball!

This prestigious honor celebrates local nonprofit leaders who are leading the fight for justice, the protection of families, and the preservation of New York's vibrant arts and culture.

Since our founding in 1978 by Sister Mary Paul Janchill and Sister Geraldine Tobia, Center for Family Life has been a cornerstone of support for the youth, adults, and families in Sunset Park. Our commitment to the community drives our work, and it wouldn't be possible without the unwavering dedication of our staff, volunteers, board, and supporters.

As we celebrate this honor, we also look forward to growing our organization by reaching more families and further enriching lives.

WE 🧡 SUNSET!!!

Shout out to the amazing CFL Staff team at Sunset Park High School () who had double-duty yesterday with two special events!

During 8th period they hosted the annual Afterschool Fair, getting SPHS students excited about our daily afterschool program (which starts on Monday!). 🎒

In the evening, CFL supported the first ever SPHS Curriculum Night, connecting with families as they experienced a “day in the life” of an SPHS student, which of course included a community-building activity in Advisory! 🌇

We are so grateful for the hardworking staff at our high school site, who are ready to greet community members with a smile and a high-five any time of day!

Yesterday, Commissioner Sandra Escamilla-Davies of the Department of Youth and Community Development () visited CFL at PS169 to kick off their first day of afterschool!

During her visit, the Commissioner spoke with participants and staff about the joys of afterschool and how our unique programs holistically serve students and their families.

We are truly grateful to DYCD for their continued support of our school partnerships and look forward to a fantastic year ahead!
