At today's NCMC meeting with DEP we learned that during the pandemic, there was an increase in the use of wipes.
The wipes are harmful to the screens and other things that are used to filter the water. Therefore the wipes are harmful to plant systems and to our waterways.

Next Wednesday is a critical meeting with DEP, where plans on how to address sewage overflow for next 25 years in Newtown Creek will be discussed. So far, 8 other waterbodies in NYC have submitted plans and 5 have been approved by the State. Almost all of the plans fail to actually reduce the amount of sewage entering the waterways (image via SWIM Coalition). Newtown Creek received 1.3 Billion Gallons of sewage overflow per year. Show up next Wednesday and tell the City that sewage reduction is the only acceptable solution for Newtown Creek.
