On Thursday September 24, 2026, HISTORY was made in New York City as City Council passed Resolution #606 officially recognizing August as Black Pride Month. As we approach 2027 and the 30th anniversary NYC Black Pride, it is befitting that the City Council has voted to officially recognize the Black Pride cultural festival of events and the history of Black LGBTQIA people in New York City. Black LGBTQIA lives matter and our history is American History and a large part of that history is rooted and intertwined in NYC history. On the shoulders of community leaders, James Saunders, Fred Pierce, Kim Ford, Laurence Pinkney, Gary English and Michael Roberson, we share this moment and also say Thank You to City Councilwoman Althea Stevens and the voting City Council members, Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson, Sean Coleman, Sage Rivera and Destination Tomorrow!
