The Oasis Colony

The Oasis Colony The Oasis Colony was founded by a small group of people who set out to sail to Australia on a mission in 1913. A new life was born.

After 28 days at sea, a terrible storm struck causing us to hit an iceberg. This horrific tragedy took the life of 1,900 of it's 2,000 passengers. With 20 life rafts we were able to save the lives of 100 individuals, including myself. With supplies low and no end in sight,we found our selves approaching the end of life as we knew it. We floated for about 32 days, sun up till sun down, until we came across what appeared to be an abandoned island. Welcome to our Utopian society, The Oasis Colony!

Socialization:
The parents or legal guardian raise the children based on the rules of the elders.When the parents are working, they drop them off at an elders house the elders take care of the young children from birth to age 4,they feed them, bathe them, and entertain them they do this in groups of 20 kids at at time (5 kids per elder). With help from older children once they get off from trade school they nourish and make sure they kids get what they need until they are old enough to attend a trade school. In the elder's homes they teach the kids about the norms and values of our society and through group activities that teach these children how to play nice, and value each others company and many other life lessons.There aren't any gender roles in our colony. Everyone is equal. Everyone has equal opportunity to get whatever job they want.

Here at the Oasis Colony education is important. We believe education is the core of our society so it is mandatory to attend school from the age of 5 - 18. Throughout the younger years kids are taught to read, write, and do basic math with no specific deadline. We have a no child left behind policy and plenty of teachers who are more than willing to spend extra time with a student. Once the child is older they began to learn a skill of their choice taught by other people in our community who we have found to be skilled in that same area, or has previously worked in that area and retired. We have decided not to focus so much on traditional classes such as history, and some other classes we feel that are less important although we touch on them briefly. We have replaced those classes with classes like carpentry, farming and other things we find necessary to the survival of our society. However all traditional classes can be taken for free if a person would like too. We also provide free education 3 days a week too adults wanting to learn new trades.

The Oasis Colony does not discriminate. There is no such thing as a woman's job or a man's job, a skill is a skill and we are all skilled in different areas. Marriage is not enforced. But, If one decides. marriage is determined by s*x, gender, or race. Equality for all who chose to marry. Marriage or partnership, is allowed only with two people. The amount of children is the decision between the couple. Adoption is possible with the consent of the birth parents. Also, dating is allowed to all s*x, gender, or race. Divorce is not necessary given marriage is not documented. Lastly men and women are considered both heads of the household.

Deviance:
A crime is an offense that enables the duty of a citizen. Such as stealing, murder , s*xual assault, discrimination. All prosecution will be held in front of a jury of elders, to determine if you will be exiled to the jail colony; the time is determined by the elders. The offender is guilty till proven innocent.

Jobs are assigned by a 123 test, which categorized your main interest and assigns you an Elder based on those interests. the Elders that mirror will than teach you that trade. for example, An Elder that is a Doctor mirrors the future job you will obtain. No Job is seen higher than another, with the exception of an Elder. Who has master that job and no longer has to work; only to teach. There is no social mobility, income or wealth. everything is equally distributed among everyone in The Oasis Colony. the highest prestige is an elder, who is greatly respected in the Colony and serves as a leader. Gender, Race, and Ethnicity places no role in this society. Everyone is seen as an equal, and no one has more than another.

Population, Health, and Environment:

Due to our location immigration isn't a factor. We are a lover of people, therefore we feel anyone can have children. This ensures that our legacy and all that we have worked hard for, is kept alive. Should anyone parish, it is our tradition to cremate our loved ones and having a burial at sea, committing them back to the earth by way of sprinkling their remains in the ocean where they are at peace.

Here at The Oasis Colony we grow our own fruits and vegetables and for meat we fish. We pride ourselves on being a healthy nation. You are what you put into your body. We cherish our society, therefore we cherish our bodies.

Government and Economy:

The Original leaders were our parents, 4 of the original founders of The Oasis Colony. We proceeded them after their death and are now the leaders. The four of us make decisions as a unit. One unit, one community, one voice. We run our government from a socialism standpoint and what that means is, our means of production is based solely on satisfying human needs. We have direct control and management of our industries and social services. We land lock and grow our own resources. Currently we are not importing or exporting goods.

We follow this famous Karl Marx quote:
"In communist society, where nobody has one exclusive sphere or activity but each can become accomplished in any branch he or she wishes, society regulates the general production and thus makes it possible for us to do one thing today and another tomorrow, to hunt in the morning, fish in the afternoon, rear cattle in the evening, just as I have a mind, without ever becoming hunter, fisherman, herdsman."

We are a diverse group of people so we don't have a set language. we have different languages from English, Spanish, Dutch, Jamaican , and Chinese and many more languages. we also have a combination of different languages together that we consider to be gibberish.
