Meet Rachel, who puts in extra time and personal care to create spaces where New Destiny tenants feel comfortable, respected, and seen. From organizing teen movie nights to being someone residents can simply talk to, this is what supportive housing work. But chronic underfunding for the New York State Supportive Housing Program ( ), on which the building relies for services, often leaves staff stretched thin and limits what providers can offer. Last year, the state implemented a small increase in funding for the first time in the last 30 years. Thanks to this change, Rachel has been promoted to Senior Case Manager since filming this video. However, the work is not done, we’re calling on and state legislators to invest $62.1M in the FY27 budget to save NYSSHP and protect the 20,000 households who call these buildings home across the state.
