to a meaningful morning at CPC Nan Shan Older Adult Center.

Over 70 older adults and experts from legal, financial, healthcare, and social service fields gathered for a conversation about elder abuse awareness. We talked about financial exploitation, neglect, isolation, and cultural stigma.

Preventing elder abuse is a shared community responsibility requiring ongoing education, vigilance, and cross-sector collaboration. Thank you to everyone who showed up. πŸ’™

A new community-led survey from CPC and FAIR sheds light on the challenges AAPI families face in accessing services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in New York City. FAIR is a CPC parent-led group that advocates for AAPI individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

Key findings:
⚠️ 76% of caregivers needed an interpreter; only 45% were satisfied with translation services.
⚠️ 66% experienced service delays in the past year.
⚠️ 46% reported depression; 57% rated their health as fair or poor.

We are calling on policymakers to expand interpreter services, streamline enrollment, invest in caregiver mental health, and more.

Thank you to Senator John Liu, representatives of AM Stefani Zinerman, CM Harvey Epstein, CM Gale Brewer, the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities, the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities, and our partners, the InterAgency Council of Developmental Disabilities Agencies, CACF, and the National Finance Network, for joining us and for your continued support. πŸ’™

πŸŽ‰ We are excited to share that Bin Feng, a member of CPC's FAIR program, received the Willie Mae Goodman Family Advocacy Award from the NYS Office for People With Developmental Disabilities!

Bin has been an active member of CPC Queens Special Needs Parent Support Group since 2019 and joined the FAIR advocacy leadership group, a CPC parent-led initiative that advocates for AAPI individuals living with developmental disabilities, in 2021. For over 20 years, he has worked to help Chinese families support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) by volunteering and serving on various committees, including but not limited to the NYS Council on Developmental Disabilities, Autism Speaks, and Care Design NY. He is also the co-founder of Project Ready, an initiative focused on assisting transition-age I/DD youth and their families in the Asian-American community.

"I am very honored to receive this award," Bin said. "This is not only for me and my family, but for all the family advocates who I admire and follow. My son has worked for eight years, pays taxes, and votes every year. Look what we have been through and what we have accomplished, and more to come."

Congratulations, Bin! πŸ’™
