Our small business center provides no-cost, 1-on-1 business advisement, training & research to New York's small business owners and entrepreneurs. Helping new and existing businesses lead to their increased productivity and profitability and, in the long-run, contribute to the stability and growth of the small business sector and the economy. Specialized in training and assisting entrepreneurs, the Small Business Development Center advises start-up and existing business owners on how to succeed. Administered by the City University of New York (CUNY), the center provides management and technical assistance, such as business planning, financial analysis, marketing, cash-flow projections, and business loan assistance throughout New York.

Our Regional Director Michael Anderson and Certified Business Advisor Joe Muller met up with State Senator Andrew J. Lanza (D-24) during his Annual Senior Resource Fair last week. The fair brought together community partners to answer questions and provide valuable free services.

Michael and Joe connected with established businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs to spread the word about the Staten Island SBDC, hosted by the College of Staten Island, and our resources.

Our Regional Director Michael Anderson, Senior Certified Business Advisor Joe Bottega, and Certified Business Advisor Joe Muller took the opportunity to connect with many clients and other small businesses and nonprofits during the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce's 2026 Annual Meeting and Member Meetup last week.

We also visited with Anna Lambert, Director of Auxiliary Services Business Operations at our host campus, the College of Staten Island, as she signed businesses up for the new CSI Wavemaker Community Membership. This annual membership gives Staten Island residents discounts and early access to campus events, merchandise, tickets, parking, and more. One of the great things about being hosted by the College of Staten Island is the collaboration we have with other departments. And that includes the students.

We were thrilled to work with several students from the Lucille and Jay Chazanoff School of Business during our Fall Into Financing Small Business Lending Event last week. The Chazanoff School is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the gold standard for business schools worldwide. And working with these students, you can see why.

Regional Director Michael Anderson spoke with many of those students about the Staten Island SBDC and the small-business landscape on Staten Island. Our Regional Director, Michael Anderson, attended the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce Coffee with Your Elected Officials event last week to hear from Assemblyman Michael Tannousis (D-64).

The East Shore legislator, whose district also includes parts of Bay Ridge, spoke on several topics, including the East Shore Seawall, the need for economic development in the Midland Beach/South Beach area, and the costs for businesses to offset higher taxes, insurance rates, and rent.

Great job by Chamber President and CEO Linda Baran, Chamber Chairwoman Carol Decina, and Tannousis' staff for an informative event.
